it doesn't work that way with todays fuel pumps, 99 % are inside the gas tank and are a sealed motor and non fixable. either they are putting in a brand of pump that is defective or the fuel pump isn't the cause of the problem but related to it. it very well could be a relay problem or cpu.

being in the automotive feild myself, it's very unusual to go thru 2 new fuel punps, so either they're missing the cause of the problem or they're putting in very cheap quality fuel pumps.

You are probably right Mikey. I have a 99 Chevy S10 and the fuel gauge has not worked in years. I checked at the parts store and they said I would have to replace the entire fuel pump for the low low price of $259.00. I just fill up everytime and know I can go right at 400 miles before it's time to start walking.
