Most Dangerous City

I've always enjoyed myself here. It's a nice little getaway for us. I'm surprised. I'll even turn my back on the Mayor's last name. (how ironic is that?).

Yah, that didn't occur to me- good call. The 2 most dangerous cities in the country played in the World Series. I'm just glad there are no moderators here that come from Michigan (city #2 and #3) --whew( ).

Man livin in flint till I was 5 and knowin what went on in that short time I couldn't fathom anyother city to be worse. I had multiple shootouts right in front of my house where stray bullets had hit my neighbors brick house. I also would go to sleep to full auto guns etc. I lived here as I could not afford else where when I turned 5 we could and I left with my family to a small town not far from there but very safe.

As bad as foreign cities can be I have never been anywhere that I felt more threatened than in American cities...growing up in Washington DC during the "murder capital" crack era I saw 4 fresh corpses and two who were dying before emergency services had arrived in just one summer...a friend had a shoot out on his front porch and called police to report the three bodies that blocked the stairs...my wife argues that our current city can be just as dangerous as bodies are found in canals on a regular basis here, but I think mainly to the lack of access to firearms the rest of the world comes in second, sadly, to the US in terms of violent crime frequency and scope...one place that I have been that compares outside of the continental US is San Juan Puerto Rico...the year I visited there were over 900 murders reported in a city of 1.5 million and I definetly would not walk a dark alley there...Kingston, Jamacia , Rio and Sao Paulo Brasil are supposed to rank up there as well, but I have not been...I read that vigilanties in Sao Paulo set fire to over 400 street kids, most while they slept, in one year in efforts to curb crime...it can be an ugly world...

st. louis has soem of the worst gang crime in the world i was watching a documentary called "Ross Kemp On Gangs" its just non stop violence, the majority of them wear masks etc, and there are alot of drugs being taken in that region. Its a similar situation, with the "number gang" in south africa near johanesburg.

I don't know what cities are next after the top 5, but I'll venture to guess Gary, Indiana is right there. Watching the news here in the apparent safe city of Chicago, all we here is the next murder there. It's constant.

I think a lot of the "Bad" is associated with East St. Louis just over the river (Illinois) side. It is very, very rough over there. For the most part the ranking does give the great city of STL a bad name.

The ranking is based on the city of St. Louis, not the entire metro area. Because the city has a relatively low population (some 330k), the per-captia rate would be higher than other cities.

Still... it's funny how the rankings came out so close to the World Series...

Here is the list of top ten most dangerous cities.

1. St. Louis
2. Detroit
3. Flint, Mich.
4. Compton, Calif.
5. Camden, NJ
6. Birmingham, AL
7. Cleveland, Ohio
8. Oakland, Calif.
9. Youngstown, Ohio
10. Gary, Indiana

Sad to say but my city of Birmingham, Al beat out Gary, Indiana as most dangerous it is a sad day when the one statistic you have to say that you did not come-in dead last is being the most dangerous city and to beat out Gary Indiana to top it all.

Kind of wierd : I really took a guess on Gary, Indiana. It's about 30 miles from dowtown Chicago- just over on the Indiana side of the border with Illinois. With an approximate population of 104,000, it's a steel mill kind of town. We hear alot of crime news stories from Gary on the Chicago news. Sort of a guess I took that turned out to be #10 on the list.

I'm shocked, I honestly would have though New Orleans would have made the list, since we are now up to at least 5 murders a day in the city with it in its current state and that's with less than 30% of the population returned home.
