Guitar Hero has been all the talk at my school, I was almost thinking of getting it, but then I realised that I don't need to spend 70 bucks to play a game for a week straight and then never touch again.
I rented Call of Duty 3 and Madden 2007 with the coupon. This was Friday and I haven't even taken a look at Call of Duty yet. I played one game of Madden so far.
I love the COD series, as well as WWII games in general...so of course I bought COD 3. I'd give it a try if I were you, but so far I haven't found that one great level that sets the game apart from all the others yet. I'm talking like the Omaha beach level in the original Medal of Honor (for PC...I know there were two before that for Playstation), Pegasus Bridge in the original Call of Duty (which is perhaps the greatest scripted gameplay sequence in any game I've ever played...I could play that 100 times straight and not get bored with it), etc. I'll surely replay the game since I bought it, but wouldn't have been disappointed with a once through on a rental this time around.

Call of Duty is one of my favorite games, besides MOH. It has a great storyline and really good gameplay, its also a real challenge.
I think this is what you're talking about. But I agrees it's all about the games. BTW, this game (Part 1 and 2) gets at least 9/10 on every review I've read. I haven't had the $70 for it (and the "controller"), but I've heard it's well worth it.
Yeah, I've seen the commercial on TV many times. It's a great idea. If they made a version of this that used a real guitar and it taught people how to play electric guitar in a game format then that would be what I am talking about. I have been considering buying an electric guitar for years and learning how to play. This is not the same at all with the fake button game guitar. It's good for a game, but I want to learn how to play a real guitar. I could see a guitar maker partnering with a software maker and taking this idea to the next step, though. If this was done, I might actually buy whatever new game system that this was for...the killer app.

I started playing COD 3 today. I return it tomorrow hehe. This is an excellent game and seems worth owning. Very entertaining and well made. As for staying power for me...who knows...I might get tired of it by the time I return it hehe.
Regarding this thread, my guess is that COD 3 on an X Box 360 isn't much, if any, different than on the PS 3 if it's available on both systems. I guess the question is how much different is it than on my PS 2. Since I don't have an HDTV TV yet, I don't think it would be very much different.
I've owned the Xbox 360 since its launch, and it is fantastic. It looks AMAZING on HDTV, but still very acceptable on standard def, and to the above poster, the difference is quite large, even on standard def TVs. To answer the earlier poster, you don't need any special attachment for HDTV, the "premium" ($400) system has HD component cables with either standard or optical audio available...
The PS3 is the talk of the town, but if you check the reviews - the PS3 version of Madden 07 for example, got WORSE marks on PS3 than the 360. This is none-too-surprising given it's new, but also given that everyone was trumpeting just how much better it was going to be, it's very revealing. Sony's delays in getting out the PS3 weren't in making it better, it was in getting enough blue laser diodes to make the darn things.
I wouldn't recommend getting a PS3 at this point, the 360 is much more mature. I would pick up a 360 now, (Target is offering $50 gift card with it if I recall, at least last week they were), and later on get PS3 once the price comes down or the games get better and more numerous.
Gears of War is the "killer app" right now, basically getting >90% reviews everywhere... I don't have it yet... *sigh*, but Tiger 07 is great (hey, this IS a golf forum, FIFA 07 is awesome, I am a Madden fan overall, but the 360/PS3 versions have a way to go yet... COD2 is awesome - don't have 3 yet. Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter was fantastic, probably the first "top-notch" game for 360, and the demo from Rainbow Six: Vegas looks just great.
There will also be a Guitar Hero coming out soon for 360 too for those who were talking about it...

I rented COD 3 a couple of days ago. It was a really good game, but it was to short. I beat the game last night, I figured it would be longer than what it was, but oh well it was still a good game.
I also heard a rumor that the next COD that comes out will not be based in WW2, but in modern times.
^^^ i have COD 2, for the ps2, big red one, now that is such a fun game, really hard, but it had africa, sicaly, the omaha beach scene, and france, germany.. also had fighter jets, bomb dropping, some of the most fun i've ever had, really must of been brutal though to think of it in real life

You can only imagine what those guys went through in the real deal. It makes you really proud of the men and woman who serve this country.
I don't think I have played COD Big Red One yet. I might pick it up, and try it.

I finished COD 3 tonight, and I agree with what you said before. Lots of fun, but a bit too short for the price tag. I'll still play again though. I'd say COD 3>Big Red One>Finest Hour. I haven't played COD 2 for the PC, but I'd definitely say the two PC COD games blow any of the console ones out of the water. Red Square and Pegasus Bridge on the original are worth the cost of them game alone. Nonetheless, they're all well done.
