One of my best friends is trying to put together a golf trip for a few friends. We are hoping for between 4-8 guys. I've been trying to get him to join this forum to ask this question but instead, he joined the wrong one and hasn't joined this one yet.
Anyways, we are from Indiana and would love to get away for a long weekend. If any of you have taken any trips close to Indiana (i.e. within 6 hour drive would be nice) and have found a nice place with great golf for a decent price and nice accomodations, I'd love to hear it. We are thinking late May/early June for a time period. Here are two links that he sent to me that he must've stumbled across.
Are you looking for a resort type trip, or would you consider maybe a nice hotel or two along the way? I can put you onto some good places here in Chicago area
We used to stop there all the time while driving through to northern Indiana. The hotel shows a little age/wear, but is still nice. In addition to golf, they have a mini golf course, horseback riding, and a lot else in addition to having Mammoth Cave nearby.
Although very reasonably priced, it IS more of a "family" atmosphere, however. I'm not sure if it is exactly what a group of guys might be looking for.
Merlando, I think we would prefer a resort type trip where we stay at the same place for 2 or 3 nights. I personally would also like to go someplace that has a nightlife/social scene within half an hours drive, but that is definitely secondary to the golf. Also, any suggestions on the courses in the 2nd link? I try not to put too much stock into photos on the internet.
Pick-it-up, most of us are based out of Indianapolis. WI doesn't sound like a bad idea.
Definitely keep the suggestions coming. I really appreciate it!

You have probably already been there, but I really like the course at the Belterra Casino. Probably not much in the way of nightlife, but the course is outstanding and challenging.
As of last time I was there (most of the trips were when I was much younger), it is an INCREDIBLE deal for the prices-- the whole resort is, all around. You can't go expecting golf like Pebble Beach or the Greenbrier, but for what it is, it is in good condition and in a beautiful area. Overall, I'd say as about as low as you'd pay for as good of courses. The resort itself does show age and wear as I mentioned, but great facilities, nice pool, and good food. If you look at the reviews you will see some complaints here and there, but you have to take into consideration how dirt cheap it is when considering the value. Found some more links for ya-
Though they seem to target golfers with their packages, it is more of a family place, and for a family with kids, I would give it an unreserved recommendation. For a group of adults, I would also give it a strong recommendation as long as you don't mind lots of families and are willing to sacrifice a little quality for a great price and lots to do.

Might I suggest Michigan, especially if you are going in June. We have many top rated courses here that are reasonably priced and we are not far from you. PM me if you are interested in specific courses.

I am from Indy but played college golf in Michigan...There are some UNREAL courses up here within 6 hours of Indy...I suggest many over here on the west side of the state!!! Let me know if you are interested!
We are definitely interested in Michigan. I actually lived in Grand Rapids for one year but didn't really play much golf up there. Please let me know any specific places in Michigan. Thanks.
Ok, while this is not a comprehensive list, it will get you started. It kind of depends on where you want to go, how far you wish to travel, how much golf you wish to cram into a getaway and of course how much you want to pay. I have left out courses that are on the east side of the state just due to travel time.
There are a few very good areas for golf on the western, central and northern parts of the state. Each has its distinctive terrain. Kalamazoo/Battle Creek is flat to rolling terrain. Grand Rapids and the western side of the state feature pines and woods, to hilly dunes further west. And northern Michigan and Gaylord is simply Michigan golf at its best, with dramatic elevation changes, water and forests (awesome in the fall).
Finally, these are the Best of the Best (IMHO). Pricey, but it doesn't get better than these. If you can play just one of these you will have a memorable round. Bring your 'A' game though!

Incredible post, thanks a ton! Is there good golf around Grand Haven/Holland area? I guess I ask since I am thinking somewhere central and close to the shoreline might make for good golf and also possibly allow for some down time on the beaches out there.
