Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest

Has anyone ever heard of this contest? I've seen shows about this contest and its contestants on Food Network. It's a contest held once a year, I guess on the 4th of July at Coney Island and basically, it's a contest to see who can eat the most hot dogs in 12 minutes.

The winner won 53 1/2 hot dogs in that time period. He beat his previous world record of 50 1/2 hot dogs. 2nd place could "only" eat 38 hot dogs. Then there was a 105 pound lady who ate 32 hot dogs to take the American record and the woman's record. 1st and 2nd place were both contestants from Japan.

I've heard about it for years, I can't believe ESPN aired an hour's worth of live coverage on it this year! I think they're re-airing it a couple times today, too. And its not just hot dogs. The rest of the year they eat anything they can shove down their throats in the name of competition.

And the woman that came in 3rd was actually pretty attractive, too.

Philly Gorges Too

And don't forget the Wing Bowl presented by a sports talk radio station in Philadelphia every year, complete with scantily clad cheerleaders and contestants with entourages! It's a quite a display of gluttony and lust, so Philly has at least two of the Seven Deadly Sins covered! People will do anything for a moment of fame, won't they?!

I also heard of a bar in Chicago that holds bacon eating contests once a week. I don't think it's very big, really only a local thing but it sounds pretty gross to me. Don't get me wrong, I love bacon but eating a whole bags worth or more in one sitting doesn't sound to appealing to me. It sure is funny how the hot dog eating contest is so big now that it's covered by so many.

Hey, watching is a lot better for your heart than eating that stuff!

Funny, but they never have apple or tomato eating contests--only foods with high fat content. Of course, crawfish isn't very fatty, is it?

LOL. Yeah, they should have a salad eating contest or something. Actually, one contest I would like to see is a milk drinking contest. Who can drink the most amount of milk in a certain period of time. I know drinking a gallon of milk in an hour is extremely difficult. I haven't tried but I'm sure I wouldn't come close.

Would that be skim, 1 percent, 2 percent, or whole milk?

Man, how expanded/bloated this guys' stomach must be. I can't imagine stuffing that much food in there.

OTOH - I love Nathan's dogs!

All the fat in a crawfish is in the head. The fat from the head is what is used to make ettoufe. It is very good and alot of the seasoning acumulates in the fat in the head. Hope this helps.

lol i just got back from vacation and saw this the other day. That guy who won is amazing. they say that being fat actually hurts you in that kind of competition because your stomach can not expand as much, pretty crazy.
