Where I work, when you go on vacation you're expected to leave a "reach" number on your voice mail, be always accessible via cell phone, take your PC with you and check e-mail at least once per day perferably twice, and if you're really a "company guy" you spend a good portion of your vacation day on-line.
I don't get it. My boss says, during a recent meeting "isn't it great that with today's technology we're always accessible for work, no matter what time it is or where we are?" I was the only one to speak up and disagree with him. "No," I said, "its not great. It stinks."

During my last "vacation" I even logged overtime hours.
When I asked him to define "vacation," he was stumped.
Now although I'm complaining here, I really can't. I get paid a fair salary, the benefits are fair, the work environment is fine, and I get pockets of free time during the day to get on this forum to read and post. But - I enjoy vacation.
Is everyone else in this situation?
