i just saw on cnbc that the world series of poker started this past weekend. the final table is scheduled to take place this friday. apparently, chris moneymaker (the defending champion) got eliminated pretty early. it was also reported that there were over 2,000 players. entry fee for the tournament is $10,000.
Have you seen the movie Rounders? It's about poker and is one of my favorite movies. Anyway, if you need more ways to waste time over the Internet, you may want to try www.pokerstars.com. I believe when Chris Moneymaker got his bid into the WSOP last year, he won it through a satellite tournament at that site to get the $10,000 entry fee. It's not surprising that he got eliminated early this year, though.
i love the movie rounders. whenever we have our poker nights, we just play it in the background. nobody even watches it because we've all seen it so many times but we like to recite the lines as they come. on june 12, my friend is holding a huge poker tournament. $50 buy in and there should be 25-30 players from what i hear. i'm not expecting ot win or even place in the money but i'm looking forward to it. hopefully i won't go out in the first hand by going all in. i've done that before, lol.
Does anyone play any of the online poker games for real money? I used to play the "for fun" games at Pokerroom.com and was tempted into playing the REAL games. I really liked playing the 10 person tournaments and would usually place in the money, or top 3. I assume the skill level in the real games are higher.

You assume correctly...I play PartyPoker and I can tell you 100,000 in play money doesn't even equal $1 real money...you can't bluff or run anyone with play money.
Thanks Shade. A lot of times when I play those tournaments, there are those jokers who raise every hand but I figured there wouldn't be those people for real money games. Heck, I'll probably have more fun playing real money as the competition should be tougher as long as I don't lose too much.
I went to pokerrooms.com and registered myself. Am gonna try a little Texas hold em this weekend. Was playing in the free area and had a good time. Never done a tourney where I could win or lose some money on line. Wish me luck.
I really enjoyed watching Moneymaker play this year. Between him and the Unabomber, the game is becoming a little more colorful. Even my wife watched a few travel channel broadcasts with me.
the guy who won the $5 million pot is greg raymer. i just visited the pokerstars site and it says that he's a "pokerstars" player, whatever that means. i know moneymaker won his entry through a pokerstars online tournament. i don't think greg raymer did it the same route but i guess he can, or should i say could, be found playing at pokerstars.
