I wonder what the sick leave rates are like for all these countries?

New Zealand needs way more holidays..... and I think they should shorten school hours, 5 days a week is too much torture!

we have waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to many holiday's in the US. Between sick leave, personal days, funeral leave, holidays, and vacation leave, it's a wonder anything gets done around here. ever notice the more the sick leave the higher the health care costs?

and school, especially for some, should be year round. just less time for kids to get in trouble when they have all that time on their hands.

The average US worker actually has less time off on average than those in most developed countries. I do think that the school year should be year-round, though. Not necessarily lengthened, although I'm not really opposed to that, but maybe a week or 2 off periodically instead of 11/12 weeks altogether as it is now.

I like the way you put that, Itchy Girl. Cap'n Stag does seem a bit cranky today.

was negotiating with a union last week. all they want is more and more and more time off. maybe we will just contract out the work. sorry, i guess work is now a 4-letter word. maybe the moderators should treat it as such. lol.

but let's get real. if you were a pga touring pro, gosh, you would have to practice, play tournaments, travel, work(there's that 4-letter word again) on most holidays and weekends, away from your family for extended periods. geez, who would want that job in a day such as this?

stagday, and yes, i'm

Maybe you should send the work oversees. seems to be the popular thing now. let's face it the U.S. is becoming nothing more than a service nation anyway. Selling and fixing goods made elsewhere.

If you had won in 1776 you just would've had to give 'em up in 1941!

So union workers are trying to negotiate more time off ??? Gee , go figure. I don't know about you but when I'm taking account of my life on my deathbed I doubt I'll regret that I didn't spend more time at the office.

What exactly do millionaire independent contractors who "work" at their pleasure have to do with the average working stiff trying to make ends meet? Get real indeed.

I am a firefighter and in a union, I guess I get a bit touchy when I see someone comment on unions as if they are all the same and all evil. The nerve of people trying to improve their quality of life.

Unions have their faults , but they are largely responsible for raising the quality of life for the working man in this country and the creation of the middle class that purchases the goods and services that allow corporations to prosper.
