Ocean City, MD or Atlantic City, NJ

I'm trying to see if I can play golf for a week with my wife during the month of November. I live 20 miles north of NYC so either Atlantic City or Ocean City, MD would be OK. Ironically, I received PAM's GOLF ad this morning covering both places. Now the questions..

- Has anyone used Pam's Golf service ? How was it?
- Must play courses and must avoid courses for both places.
- Good Restaurants and not to be avoided activities
- Thing we shouldn't do or better not do
- Weather conditions?
- any other tips?

Thanks in advance..

Weather conditions will typically be about 10 degrees warmer in OC Maryland that time of year. So for that reason alone, I'd go south.

Courses to avoid -- have no idea. There are some truly great courses in OC Maryland that always get awesome reviews. I've played two courses there, of which I really enjoyed. The first one is The Links at Lighthouse Sound, which is really upscale. You might get a discount at that time of the season, the normal price in season is somewhere in the neighborhood of $150/rd. I played it back in December of 2005 for like $80/rd. It's an awesome layout, and the staff are wonderful to deal with.

The other course I played was Eagles Landing. Another solid course at a great price, probably half that of the Links at Lighthouse Sound. Not nearly as upscale, but good conditions and a nice layout.

Ocean City is basically a ghost town at that time of the year. We booked an ocean front condo for like $60/night, which was likewise a great bargain. There are some shopping outlets that are still open, but outside of that you'll have to travel for a nightlife if you stay near the coastline.

I played at the Bay Club in OCMD, well it was about 30 mins out. Very nice and fun course, and only costs $45 in the summer, so you should not pay much in Nov.

I don't know about the golf around there, but I spent many a weekend in OC Md as a teen and Phillips Crab House is still one of my finest dining memories. That was a over 30 years ago, though, FWIW.

From the information that I've received from guys who go to OC, MD a lot, they say that a lot of the businesses there right off the coastal strand begin to close around November. Since I've never been there that time of year, I don't know exactly when most of those places shut down for the winter. There are still a few local diners and fast-food chains still open, to cater to those who live there year-round throughout the winter months. You'll also find a few nicer restaurants, like Outback, etc. just outside of the city limits, like 10 minutes south/west from the central portion of the city. And as I said earlier, there are quite a few strip malls and shopping outlets still open.

As far as the rates, you'll need to contact the courses you might be interested in playing to get the price. Some might have changed since last season. You also might get some type of deal, if you call and inquire.

We stayed at a nice place right there off the ocean, on Ocean Blvd. It was a chain, can't think of the exact place.... But what I remember most is just how inexpensive it was, because during the summer that same room with a double bed went for $300/night. My buddy and I split the cost, and we paid $30 each for the three nights we were there. So I would think that the rates will be more reasonable than Jersey as well, although it's probably another 3 or 4 hours of travel. The town is very neat and clean, and quiet at that time of year. If you're going to relax and avoid populated areas, this might be the best time to go.

The best thing for you to do is to google Ocean City Maryland, and start getting some info off the many websites available. You shouldn't have an issue finding a place to stay at a reasonable price. You can also get listings of courses there from the internet, and start calling to get prices.

Hope this helps.
