Golfing Alone On Long Island?

I'm a newbie golfer on Long Island and I'd like to go out for a few rounds alone so I don't burden whomever I'm paired with. However, I know how crazy the courses on Long Island can be. Would any of them allow me to get out alone? Even a 9 hole course would be great. Or should I even bother trying? Thanks, Don

Re: Golfing Alone On Long Island?

I've only been sent out solo once and it happened to be in LI @ Peninsula in Massapequa. At the second hole the single in front of me waited for me. At the fifth, the pair in front of us invited us to join them, so I wasn't alone for long.

Anyway, I really wouldn't worry about burdening anyone. At any given public course, no matter how bad you think you play, there will probably be someone worse. The most important thing is not to slow them down. As long as you keep up the pace of play (even if that means picking up your ball and moving on), you'll be fine.

Re: Golfing Alone On Long Island?

Thanks for the reply. I actually did call Penninsula a couple of weeks ago, before I posted this thread, but the guy told me that they don't send singles out. I asked if it would be OK after the summertime and he said that would be no problem.
Perhaps I'll take your advice and just go for it. If not, I have a few rounds coming up after Labor day Thanks again.

There are a couple of nine hole courses on LI that you might be able to sneak onto as a single. Woodmere comes to mind. So does Bay Park in East Rockaway.
