Any must play courses in Indiana?

Well I've been back here 8 years now and would like to venture out and play some nice course in the state. Over the last several years I've played most of the Louisville, KY courses and several in IN that I consider to be quite good, including French Lick, Sultan's Run and Old English. I'd like to check out some courses in Indy perhaps someone on this site might have some pull to get me on at Crooked Stick. Let me hear your thoughts.

Brickyard Crossing in Indianapolis. it's located just to the East of the speedway and there are 4 holes that are actually located inside the track. green fees aren't too bad either, around $90. another course that i've heard great things about is Purgatory in Noblesville, just NE of Indy. supposed to be LONG.

I've walked the four holes inside the track many times while attending the USGP and it looks like the course is always in pristine condition.

If you are willing to drive to Indy from Floyds Knob than I would suggest going an hour further north on I-65 and trying both the Kampen Course at Purdue (done by Pete Dye) and Coyote Crossing (done by Hale Irwin). Kampen is a links course and will test every part of your game. Coyote is a newer course but has a stretch that resembles Amen Corner at Augusta. Of the two I enjoyed playing Coyote Crossing far more than Kampen.

Since I live in Northern Indiana I can really only suggest courses up this way. I'd suggest Rock Hollow just outside of Peru. (About two hours straight north of Indy) I've had the pleasure of playing there a few times in High School. In the past it’s been ranked on the best courses in Indiana, and one of the Best Courses in the U.S. you can play for under $50.

Well, I've never played here, but there's a course outside of Columbus called Otter Creek that was designed by Robert Trent Jones. It's considered one of the better Courses in the State.

Please tell me more about Rock Hollow. I was hoping someone on the board had played it.

If you find yourself in the Chicago area there is a brand new course in Hammond, IN called Lost Marsh. It is VERY challenging, and appealing to the eye. It only costs about $50 to play, too. I have also played Coyote Crossing, Purgatory, and the Brickyard. I had very nice experiences at all of them. In South Bend, Blackthorne is a good option. I've heard the course at Notre Dame is good, but I have yet to play there.

Rock Hollow is easily the nicest and most difficult courses I've ever played. I usually shot in the mid 80's for 18 in High School but I could barely break 100.. The 18th hole is a "Beast"!! Long carry over water off the tee and water up the entire left side of the hole. You can check out their website http://www.rockhollowgolf.com. They have some pictures of holes plus more info than I could give you.
I do know they've had a "Stay and Play" deal with the local Best Western. But, since I only live 20 minutes from the course I don't have to worry about that.

Live in Indy

I live in the Indy area and have a few favorites. Purgatory, Prairie View, Bear Slide, The Legends of Indiana (Franklin, Indiana), The Fort, Brickyard. I have also heard that Otter Creek in Columbus is one of the best in the state. Columbus is halfway (between Louisville and Indy)

If you get up here and want to golf sometime, let me know.

I live about 3 miles north of Crooked Stick but don't know anyone there. If you do get to Indy you should see the yard of one of the prominent Indy residents. I first thought it was part of Crooked Stick but found out in was somebodies private course on their property.

Mike
