I'll be in the NW suburbs (Hoffman Estates/Schaumburg area) of Chicago for much of next week visiting my girlfriend, and she has to work Monday and Wednesday, so I'll be bored and looking for things to do. One thing I'd like to do is have my swing taped/analyzed. I won't have my clubs (or shoes) with me, but is there a place around the area where I might go to do this? I'd be interested in 1/2-1hr, and a reasonable price (say, <$100? Is that realistic?). I don't need PGA Tour-quality instruction, just a little advice.
Anyone done this in the area? Advice, or suggestions, either specific to the Chicago area or just "find a place that does ______" or "make sure you ask them ______ or bring ________" are appreciated. Do I need an appointment? How far in advance? Do any of the stores like Golf Galaxy do this, especially for customers who aren't buying equipment?
I've been playing (in the spring and summer) going on 3 years now, usually hit around 110-120, and often have a significant slice, if that information helps.
There is a golf galaxy right near woodfield and you can get the exact address online, Im assuming they do it there, golf center of des plaines in about 10 mins from schaumburg and has quite the facility, I would try calling there.
There is a golfsmith on Golf Road in Schaumburg that is literally across the street from Golf Galaxy. They have a Hot Stix analysis hitting bay. I have not done the swing analysis there.
I did a swing analysis at a Highland Park location (30 - 45 minutes east of Schaumburg) and was very pleased. The cost was over $100 and was only for the driver, 3 wood. There analysis was well done and thorough. They were equipment neutral and provided me with a group of clubs to help my driving. Needless to say, they were right on and have been hitting the ball further and straighter ever since.
I looked on the Golf Galaxy website, and they offer a $60 1/2 hour package, which includes taping and they give you the tape with the pro's comments overlaid on it so you can reference it later (pretty important IMO since I will need to reference it often, methinks).
Any reason anyone knows of to go with Golf Galaxy over Golfsmith, or vice versa?
Hi Chris,
I'm from here in the NW burbs of Chicago. I would suggest "The Golf Center" in Des Plaines- on River Road (and Golf rd.), about 15 minutes east of Shaumburg. They have a 3-tiered driving range for lessons, which Golf Galaxy and Golfsmith do not. I like this because your outside and can see your entire ball-flight. I'm sure they include video tape, but not positive. They also have "Golf-tec" indoors for computer technology.
If you leave me a GW message I can at least help you out a bit.

One reason I am thinking virtual simulator at a golf store is because I am trying to avoid hauling my clubs out there. I'm arriving at O'Hare Sat, hopping in the car and heading to Peoria for the weekend, then back to Chicago Monday, and leaving for Wisconsin Wed. That's a lot of hauling the clubs for an hour of instruction, and probably without the possibility of a round any other time that week.
Also, I found the Golf Center's website, but it had no mention of rates; is it comparable to the stores?
