i bought the scotty cameron red x when it first came out and i cant say enough about it...its the greatest putter i have ever rolled and i will be keeping it as long as im playing golf...it completely changed my putting! many people say that mallet putters arent good on fast greens..doesnt matter with this putter..u can roll this on anything...great feel...great grip....you just have to try it out
With only an occasional side-trip to a Ping Karsten-2 for slow greens, I have used a Palmer AP30R for appox. 30 years. A few weeks ago I was playing a round with a friend who had just gotten a new putter. Like me, he had use the same putter forever - in his case a Wilson Bullseye. Long story short, he was going-on so much about this new putter that I had to try it. I don't remember ever feeling the ball come off the face of a putter the way it did (does) off this one. A duplicate in now in my bag. A Scotty Cameron Classic II blade.
STUDIO DESIGN # 3....something wrong with it though...as soon as it went in my bag someone changed all my prov's with some balls of butter.....
this putter is so soft the people i'm playing with can hear the buttery softness......
i didn't realize anyone else made putters though....
why can't i truly quantify the quality of cameron putters on this poll....the highest option i see is EAGLE....Camerons are clearly an ALBATROSS level putter.
I have a 2001 Cameron "Big Sur" 48" and my only complaint about the putter is the shaft.
I purchased the putter used and noticed that the previous owner had the shaft made into a 2-piece shaft. Besides that the shaft felt a bit whippy. I sent it back to Cameron for a reshaft and regrip expecting a great feeling product. Not so!
Most of the extra long putter shafts are the "ski-pole" type which makes them more stable. They reshafted it with a "stepped" shaft and it's just as whippy as before. The tip diameter is proprietary so I can't get it reshafted locally or do it myself.
Perhaps other Cameron putters are great, but as far as the company and this putter is concerned, I'm not impressed.
I just got the Circa 62 model 1 and it is the best putter I have ever used, I can not brag about it enough so I will not get started lol....
Yep. This is my putter also. I have had some absolutely memorable putting rounds this year using this putter. In one tournament, by the time I got to the last 15 footer for birdie on #18, everyone in the group just said "that's good, pick it up". I made the putt for a 66.
No laser lines, arrows, adjustable weighting or high moi. Just a little circular dot that marks the sweet spot. And, sweet spot it is. The only way someone else is getting this putter is when they pry it out of my cold, dead hands.
i just bought the newport 2 33" 350 grams. I LOVE THIS THING! It is very well made, I love the balance of this heavier putter compared to my last (2 ball srt)
Aiming is easy, distance control is excellent, and the ball just flows off the putter face! And it looks SOOOO sweet. My putting is MUCH better, but part of that may be because I LOVE to practice with it everyday in my living room.
Well worth the money.
I contacted Titleist (Cameron Division) about the whippy shaft problem Monday afternoon. I explained everything that had transpired and the problem I was having. The guy I spoke with said that they had used "ski-pole" (stepless) shafts on their older models but we currently using the stepped ones. He understood my problem and asked me to call him back in about 15 minutes.
When I called back he was able to locate one of the old shafts. He asked that I return the putter and he would reshaft, regrip, and return it free of charge.
I may need to have a moderator "retract" my previous vote so I can revote after I test this thing out.
I will say this much for the Cameron Division. Even though they are pricey in their repairs, etc, they're customer service is second to none.
I purchased a used Studio Stainless Newport 2.5 a few months ago on ebay, and at first I didn't like it. I felt that the ball came off the face too soft, and you really had to smack the ball to get it moving. After a couple days of use I really started to like it and I have to say this is the best putter I've ever used. The balance is great, and the ball comes off the face very true and soft, which I love now. After a 1 inch shaft extension and a new grip, I wouldn't trade it for anything.
I always find it comical when people call Cameron's "pricey". No one seems to have a problem paying $300, $400 for the newest driver(which is used what.. maybe a dozen times a round?), but $200-$300 for a putter(which is used 28-32 times a round) seems outrageous to them. Not to mention the driver that you're buying has been obsolete for a year when you buy it.. putters seem to be somewhat "exempt" from the technology boom. Name one pro who carries a 10 year old driver.... now name a pro who carries a 10 year old putter.
Cameron putters are pricey compared to other OEM putters - Odyssey, Ping, Yes, etc... They aren't pricey compared to Bettenardi's, Slighter's, T.P. Mills', etc...
What I get a kick out of though is the almost "cult" following of many SC putter owners. The clubs have become more than putters, they are investments. Many SC owners have more than one, a "gamer," and a "back up." I've seen collectors that have dozens of SC putters. And the headcovers! Some of his limited production hc's sell for hundreds of dollars!
The basic SC putter I think is reasonably priced, especially if it works for you. But my feeling is Mr. Cameron is more than a clubmaker, he is a marketing genius for creating a frenzy for his "rare" putters - specially stamped, limited edition, re-issues (Napa Valley for example at $500+).
Look on eBay and you'll see SC putters for well over $1000. There aren't too many drivers, old or new, in that price range!
I have an old SC Tei3 putter. Its OK, but doesn't roll the ball better than my Odyssey 2-ball or Yes Callie.
Putters are very personal. It doesn't matter if you get yours out of a $5 bargain bin, or spend hundreds of dollars - as long as it works for you.
just bought a Studio Style Newport 1.5 and I absolutely love it, perfect weight and balance, great feel. I'm upset that I haven't been using a scotty cameron all along.
I bought Scotty's Red X putter when it was first released...I continue to use it and... it is by far the best putter I have ever used.
For several years I played a Ping Anser & then a Ping Darby (mallet head).
The Red X keeps the ball on line...has a great look at set-up...the ball comes off soft with top spin...and most importantly it's weight is perfectly balanced in order to help give you a true pendulum stroke!
This is the next additon to my golf bag. I've tried several putters and I ALWAYS come bad to this one.
