PING Karsten Series Putters (2008)

I just got mine and played a round with it. What a value. I never thought I'd say that again in the realm of greedy golf manufacturers!!!

I got a Zing for $89.99 on TGW. Aside from being a great head design, it has a nice Winn grip and a very attractive head cover. I am very pleased.

Re: PING Karsten Series Putters (2008)

I agree that these putters are a good value, and are probably the best value in new putters (and I think that Ping has given players no good reason to spring for the more-expensive Redwood models that have Karsten counterparts).

I am not crazy about the grip that comes with them, but because I always change grips on the new putters I get, it is not that big of an issue.

Ultimately, I like the idea of putters--like the Karstens--that you can use, slightly abuse, and know they will be great gamers for years.

P.S. Ping's claim that the elastomer insert somehow enhances feel is baloney. I demoed a Karsten Anser in direct comparison to a G2 Anser, which did not have an insert, and could not feel a difference. Both putters felt great, but it just irks me that Ping claims the insert (which I perceive to be purely cosmetic) affects the putter's feel.

I know what you mean. You see similar "inserts" in other putters and even irons. Where it might dampen a teeny bit of vibration in an iron, I don't think it does anything for a putter. I've had G2 models and the older cast heads with no inserts and found the same thing as you did.

Re: PING Karsten Series Putters (2008)

I just bought a vintage Anser 3. At first it was very springy off the face. I was used to a really dead walmart dunlop putter... Similar look as a b60 in the karsten series. Anyway I was getting my putts to stop within a foot of the hole 85% of the time.. It felt amazing. I think its a few inches too long but oh well...

Re: PING Karsten Series Putters (2008)

Fallen out of love with these honestly. Right now I am fighting between the Ping Craz-E (last years model) and the Rife 2 bar hybrid. They both have a nice pendulum feel and roll the ball very true.

I played (and still have) a Zing 2 for many years. Also have an old B60. When I putten with the new one I liked the look, but didn't do anything for me vs. the old versions.
