Anyways, my favorite club is an old Ping B60. I used this putter to pass my players abilities test for the PGA. Target score was 151: The first round I shot 80 with I don't even remember what the putter was (39 putts)...I went to my car and grabbed my PING B60 and shot 70 with 29 putts. (The B60 is not in my Bag any more, but I still putt in my living room with this putter!)

My favorite club in my current set is my Bangster OL with the stiff Enzo ZONE 60 shaft. I hit 14 out of 14 Fairways 2 times this year with this combo...don't ask what I shot. :)

Your more then welcome to participate.

I have to say that I a putter might never be my favorite club. Get on the green in two and 3 putt..... arrrggghhh I've seen it too many times this year.

It is the one club i have some semblance of confidence with. When i play it may take me a few more shots to reach the green but once there at least i can hold my own from there.

Hopefully by the summer i will be able to list something other than a putter as my favorite club.

It was given to me by Charlie Smith from Gastonia, NC. He and his brother Dave were great amateur golfers during the 50s and 60s, winning a number of tournaments between them. In 1960 Charlie won the Southern Amateur and the North/South. He and I were paired together in a practice round of the Azalea Amateur in Charleston in 1958. After we finished he gave me the above club which was his backup driver. I played with it from 1958 until 1995 when I switched to a metal revolution. During those years I had a fair amount of success in competition and hit long, accurate drives. The best was at the Chatanooga Country Club in 1963 when I hit a high draw that stopped several feet short of the pond in front of the green on the par 5 10th hole. It was downhill, downwind (a lot!) and very hard ground. It was also 408 yards. Yes, I did manage a birdie on the hole. I wish I had kept the club, but I gave it to a friend who was just starting to play.

First of all... you do know were located in Gastonia.

Sounds like the driver still had something left in it.

I bought it when they first came out, over 10 years ago, and used it for a year or two. But that is not why it is my favorite club.

It is my favorite club because over the years, I've spent hours and hours out in the garage "customizing" it. Its gotten me through countless Winter evenings stripping the paintfill, and experimenting with different color combinations. I've stripped off the original finish from the face, and polished it smooth. I've changed the grip many times. It has given me so much pleasure, and helped me pass many an evening in the garage with an accompanying cup of coffee and cigar.

I still can't putt for @#$$^%&^* with it (LOL), but it is the club that has given me the most fun.
Your still in the drawing... still got many more to go.

and don't worry I'm kinda with you... I've got a Studio 5 Cameron that I hit very well in the shop but I still can't putt well.

Re: WINTER CONTEST -- SRG

I just counted up the entries and came up with 10, not counting those posts by Rock Solid, so I assume this contest is still open. Favorite club at this time has to be my new 5 wood. I got it to replace one I had that didn't give me any more distance than my 9 wood. The new 5 wood is much longer, and very easy to hit. I"m now hitting the ball 250 to 260 yards with this 5 wood. Last round, I had 245 yards to the flag according to my laser. Pulled out my 5 wood, and hit a nice approach shot from the left side of the fairway, and landed the ball about 5 yards short of the flag, but on the green. Ball rolled to the back of the green, but still on it, so I had an eagle putt attempt. Of course I missed it, but had an easy tap in for my bird. Needless to say, it's the best 5 wood I've ever had in my bag.

Here's how it works...
1) What is your favorite club of all time?
2) Why was it your favorite club?
3) Give me a story about your all time favorite club....... (coming through in a clutch shot, pulling out a good shot on a bad day, off the car in the hole, flying in the water and you fishing it out.... etc )

You don't have to be a perfect writer or funny but I do like to laugh and get interested in others story's so give all you got.

One entry per person and all entry's will be put in a hat and two winners will be picked to receive one Free EnZo Zone Hybrid (your choice of flex) each.

Must have atleast 30 entry's or the deadline is extended until we reach that mark.

Note: They don't have to be long.
1) Titleist Scotty Cameron Bullseye Blade 33" with original grip
2) After struggling with higher MOI putters, I chose a putter with a simple design (a flat piece of metal on a stick). No more space shuttle sized or fang shaped putters for me. The forgiveness never allowed me to learn from my poor mechanics, poor distance control and bad set up. Long putts or short putts were a challenge prior to the change.
3) I switched to the Blade putter after using a mallet for quite a while. I was a 3 putt king and missed easy 3-4 footers before switching. Focusing upon the putting stroke, I practiced hours on end with just the putter. For two months, putting was 60% of my practice. One day, I faced a 20 foot breaking putt for birdie (what would usually be a 3 putt for me). . . and made it. I swore off the modern putter for an old fashioned club - it's never leaving the bag and I am not going to change anything about it.

Re: WINTER CONTEST -- SRG

My favorite club would probably be 50 degree Titleist Vokey wedge. I've had many clutch moments with it and it keeps pulling through. *for now* lol.

1. My first tournament this year was A drive that missed the the fairway by a couple feet. I then wipped out the 50 degree wedge, and with 110 yards to go, stuck it within 7 feet. I then went on to make birdie and birdie the first hole in a tournament.

2. This was during a high school match. I needed a birdie on the last two holes to help get my score back to even par for the 9 hole round. We were playing one of the best teams in our area also. They had only lost 3 times out of the last 20 something matches. So that made it even better. My 8th hole, I wipped out the 50 wedge once again and stuck it say 15-20 feet away. I nailed the big breaking putt to put me +1. My last hole was an easy dogleg right that was 150 yards to the dogleg then 100 in. I hit my 8 iron right down the heart of the fairway and then had a 50 degree wedge in :D. I stuck it within 3 feet!!!!!!! It was a tap in on an easy green. Although it didn't earn me match medalist, it helped clinch the match and help us win!

Re: WINTER CONTEST -- SRG

My favorite club of all time was the Cleveland Beryllium Copper 60 degree wedge because it was soft and I could put a ton of spin on chips.

This was when I first started using a 60 degree wedge for all shots around the green other than bunker shots. Whenever I play in a men's league even with a certain member he always mentions to the rest of the group how I "put on a clinic" the first time he played a round with me. That was about 8 years ago. I was actually glad when I missed the green so I could use the new club and I often did during that round hehe.

Gotta love a good new wedge with never hit before grooves.

Speaking of which, the first time I used Vokey wedges I shot my "career" low of 31 on the front. I was backing up wedge shots with the new wedges. I was also motivated to do well because I was starting a new job the next day and couldn't play as much hehe. I ended up having to wait for a tournament to finish before playing the back nine and unfortunately three-putted on #18 for a 70. I had never broken 70 until this year. That 70 round was four years ago.

Re: WINTER CONTEST -- SRG

I am 42.9 years of age and still own my original irons that my Dad taught me to play golf with (Wilson Gear Effect irons). These irons are 34 years old and I play with them when I visit my folks in Florida.

It would be hard to pick one of these clubs as my favorite, but the 9 iron will always be my favorite. I seem to be flying at the flagstick from 135 when the 9 iron comes out. It's a confidence that is hard to explain.

I believe I can hit these old irons with anyone hitting their equipment (not in length, but rather in accuracy). There is something magical to me about their look behind the ball. They still have the original shafts and I put my illegal Silhouette grips on them. I can't wait to visit my Dad next.

Re: WINTER CONTEST -- SRG

My all-time favorite club had to be a used Wooden Ping Driver with an ultra-lite Brunswick UCV-304 stiff shaft. I used the club from the about the time I turned 14 until the shaft finally snapped during a swing when I was 25 or so. The driver was made in the early 70's, and I could flat-out kill it. It just had the great feel, or non-feel that you get when you catch the ball flush. I was so confident with the club; I never have driven the ball with the same measure of length and consistency, even with the new technology that we use today.

The replacement shafts that I tried in the Ping just didn't give me the same feel or confidence. It was the last wooden head driver that I used. What a great club, and great memories of playing it for so many years!

Thanks for the opportunity to remember an "old friend"!
