I am looking for golf course suggestions relatively near the Myrtle Beach airport. My friend is somewhat of a cheapskate, so I am looking for a good value in the PM when our plane lands in the AM.
We are thinking about Shaftesbury Glen (60) right now for Early October (prime season again).
Any Ideas or Recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

This link is a great one. We booked through them but you don't have to do that. There are links for tee time specials and even some coupons you can use. Hope it helps. I believe it saved me some serious dough.
Shaftsbury Glen wasn't in too good of shape a couple years back, so we've never went again. Maybe is better now?
There are "MONSTER" coupon books all over the place there. Find one and get the $20 off coupon for the Legends. We played the Parkland course at Legends for 48 bucks last week and its in near perfect shape (unless they aerated the greens since we left, might want to ask).
Sea Trail courses are normally in nice shape also and usually around 50 bucks.
I do an annual trip to Myrtle every February. We get a good package deal for that time of the year but out of the courses we play, I do like Shaftsbury Glen. It was in great shape last Feb. Oyster Bay is another great track, and probably a lot more fun in the non-winter months. Crows Creek is in North Myrtle, and I really enjoyed this course as well. Difficult when the wind comes up. Unfortunately I can't comment much on the regular season prices, because I've never been in the "prime" season.

I just played Oyster Bay last week and it was terrible. The greens had just been aeriated, and not only that but they were brown in most spots. The fairways were pretty high I thought also. I wont go back there.

Wow, that does sound like it was in bad shape. i've played it 3 winters in a row, and it must be better in Feb. Sorry to hear that it was in such poor shape.
A couple guys from Kentucky play in Myrtle with us every year. I really like those guys, good people from Kentucky for sure.
I've been to Myrtle three times in my life, and each time, I played the same three courses. They aren't exactly value courses, but they aren't expensive.
They are Tiger's Eye, Panther's Run, and Lion's Paw.

Yeah I've always heard it's one of the best down there, and that's why we played it, but you know how it is. We might have just caught it at the wrong time. Everyone and their brother that says it's great can't be that wrong. lol. It did look like a nice course as far as layout and looks, just wasn't in good shape when we played.
Went down to MB about a month ago, and I agree with finding the "Monster Coupon Books". I played "The Pearl", and "Angel Trace" for about $30 each (afternoon rate), with a coupon. They weren't great, but for around $30 you'll have a hard time beating them.
Like Beerlord said, Wizard, Witch, and Man O' War are nice courses for the $$. I played Myrtlewood Palmetto in May and about half of the fairways were in horrible shape.
Two others that i like are Myrtle Beach National. They have 2 courses there i believe. The other one is The Granddaddy (Pine Lakes International). It's the oldest golf course in Myrtle. I like both of those spots.
If your golf trip is in October (Peak Fall Season) then I wouldn't rely on coupon books and newspaper deals, you may find it a headache calling MANY golf courses to only find slim tee-times. You mentioned good value courses "near" the airport, here are some to consider:
Man O'War, Witch, Wizard, Pine Lakes, Palmetto, Arrowhead, Prestwick, Indian Wells, Indigo Creek and International Club.
The best valued golf package that exists is the Masters Package (MBN golf package) which includes 4 or 6 rounds and you get 1 FREE afternoon round.
