Dear All,
not finding any conclusive recommendation when trying to serach - hence an outright Q:
What courses can be recommended in and around Atlanta - better half and myself will spend 3 days end of Oct there and look for three courses to play - we enjoy Golf - and look for something nice - certainly not OTT - but simply nice and quaint for a reasonable budget - to underline no fancy stuff - nothing but a nice round (erm 3 in fact).

Last year I went to Atlanta for the NASCAR race on Halloween weekend. Brought my clubs, and played Lake Spivey in Jonesboro (SE of the main downtown area). Nice price, nice course, friendly folks, not too mind bendingly hard or long. They are on the lastminutegolfer.com site as well, but they have their own site at www.lakespivey.net.
If you want a harder course check out golfthefrog.com - the Frog course at the Georgian Resort, 45 minutes away in Villa Rica, west of ATL.
* The Frog
* Lake Lanier Island
* Bears Best
* Chateau Elan
* Cobblestone
* Windermere
* Stone Mountain
You can not go wrong with any of these options. They are very high quality and reasonably priced. You can type them into Google and you can get details.
Here's my list:
River's Edge
Lake Spivey
The Frog
Stone Mountain (either course)
Cherokee Run
Heritage
Emerald Pointe
Collins Hill
Bradshaw Farm
Wolf Creek
Check the link I'm posting, and put in the state, and date you want. Be aware it only goes like a week in advance for Tee Time Specials, but it's a great place to get a good price on some really nice courses. Several of the courses that have been mentioned in this thread are there.
Bradshaw Farm is not, but it's worth the play. Heckuva course.
Bigvivec, add The Lion to your short list. It's definitely worth playing.
The Frog is at least equal to, if not a touch better than The Lion. There are quite a few courses in NW GA that are fantastic. ezlinks has a good number of them. http://www.ezlinks.com
Next time I am in the area I will make a point to check it out...I love the Frog though, fantastically maintained and nice amenities (range with good balls!)...although the golf is very good here, it is tough to beat the South where it seems everyone is a player...and rightfully so with the long playing season and the seemingly endless supply of great courses and drivng ranges every mile...
As it looks - we will be staying at The W hotel at perimeter rd - I have some business to attend in Smyrna - and we will only have three days to play - which three courses would you recommend most in the nearer vincinity ?

Atlanta is all relative as far as distances go...seems like no matter what the errand it requires a minimum of 20 minutes in the car...go north to Bradshaw Farm and west to the Frog...

I'm going to have to agree with Bigvivec on this. Good courses abound in the metro area. Those, are two of the toughest, best kept courses in the area.
The conclusion - we lost a day thanks to Delta in getting us from NY to ATL in 8 hrs instead of 2 hrs and in addition losing our clubs for two more hours - came finnaly on a different flight - so we only had two days.
We played Wolf Creek - which I had booked through the Last Minute Golfer and who were extremely friendly and helpfull in allowing us to use the booking we had made a day later than planned due to the arrival circumstances.
A very nice course - fantastic shape - many interesting holes / blind shots and above all great people running the place.
Then we got the Frog through ezlinks. A bit of a drive but certainly worth it - what a fantastic course - in termendous shape and very challenging. Greens extremely fats to say the least - just looking at the ball moved it about 10 ft across...
