My uncle just mailed me the itinerary for our annual February Myrtle Beach golf trip. We play Sat. Feb 3 thru Sat Feb. 10. Looks like we'll be playing:
Aberdeen or Long Bay
Grande Dunes
Crow Creek
Possum Trot
Myrtle Beach Nat. West
Diamond Back
Heather Glen
Beachwood
I think this is one of the better schedules we've had in recent years. We play at least 18 holes a day and I'm usually the guy pushing for additional rounds. Hopefully we'll get some decent weather this year (no snow!). Anyway, I'm getting pretty jazzed. Feb is right around the corner. I better get my game tight, because I'm the defending low gross champion for the past two years running, if I may pat myself on the back.

I would go with Long Bay over Aberdeen if you have the choice. Your other top courses are Grande Dunes, Crow Creek and Heather Glen. Have fun and don't forget your trip report when you get back.

Played Heather Glen, Aberdeen, and Crow Creek in the past. Heather Glen is a GREAT course. I've played probably 25 courses up there and it is one of my favorites. What I remember about Crow Creek was it had just opened 6 months or so before we played and from tee to green it was fantastic condition wise. It lost a lot of appeal b/c of all the construction going on between holes. At the time they bragged about their greens being "fastest on the grand strand"....well, I don't know if they still advertise that but when I went they were off the charts fast. My brother in law 3 putted 11 consecutive greens to start the round. Granted he is not a single digit player but he isn't over 100 either. It got to be downright funny after a while.... well, once the total frustration of watching your ball almost stop at the hole then continue on another 5 feet. Half of the 20 guys left there with some form of the yips.
From what I've heard about the other courses, you definitely have a good trip planned. Enjoy!

I agree..I've played Long Bay before and it's a beautiful course. Never played Aberdeen but I see it there on Route 9. It looks like a nice course too.

Aberdeen is a good average course. Diamond Back is a pretty nice course, if it was located in central Myrtle Beach, it might be a surcharge course.
The only one I haven't played before is Heather Glen, but all of the "Glen" courses look really nice. We got rid of a couple courses this year, Oyster Bay and Shaftsbury Glen being two that I can think of. I like Shaftsbury but can do without Oyster Bay. That course get's freezing cold and windy because it's right on the bay.
SOUNDS LIKE LOADS OF FUN....i am going to charleston in two weeks for two weeks of golfing fun.....lucky for me it's where my wife is from....so lodging is free....yaaay.....

I haven't been through Myrtle Beach but I want to real bad.....
I never went when i was living in charleston because i had a friend who caddied out at kiawah island and was able to get me on for let's just say a very reasonable price........hard to say go the 2 hours to myrtle when kiawah is right below me......that said and my friend finished with college and on to a different job thereby terminating my kiawah vantage card, i would like to see the majority of the 120 courses offered in myrtle........have you guys ever google earthed Myrtle.....it's all courses....ummmmmm

Hi Omen,
The package costs $594 for 8 nights stay at the Long Bay Resort, on the water, plus all of the rounds of golf I listed, including carts. Pretty darn good deal. My wifes uncle has been putting it together for like 25 years. It started out with 4 guys and now there's 20-30 every year. Guys come from all over the country, but mainly from the East Coast. Being in California, I travel the farthest, and they all wonder why in the heck I would leave Ca to golf in chilly Myrtle Beach for the week. It's so much fun. I always look forward to it.

I'm going to go out on a limb and question your sanity from what I just read here . I see that you're from Southern California and you're coming all the way to Myrtle Beach to play golf...in February?!?! With Palm Springs right around the corner I wouldn't hesitate to go there. I know that February is peak season in Palm Springs and in Myrtle Beach it's the off season, but you have absolutely zero chance of fowl weather in Palm Springs as opposed to Myrtle Beach, which can be extremely hit or miss in February. I'll also say with absolute certainty that the majority of golf courses in Myrtle Beach can't hold a candle to the Palm Springs courses. Most people go to warmer climates for golf in the winter time. I gotta hear this one!
Played all of them except for Beachwood and Myrtle Beach National. IMO Grande Dunes is the best on the list. Make sure you "see the whole course" as I always here people say. Their back tees were right at 8000 when we played it in July. lol

LOL, yeah I know...the guys say the same thing in MB every year. They think I'm nuts to make the trip. While I love all of the golf we get to play, it's also about getting to see some of my family that I don't get to see very often. We drink some beers, check out some entertainment 'cough' Crazy Horse 'cough', and have a great time all week. It's also nice to get away from So. Cal where I'm not thinking about work or responsibilities here. Honestly, I don't have enough golfing buddies out here to put together a week long golf-fest like the MB trip.
Don't get me wrong, Palm Springs is great, but the colder weather doesn't bother me too much, and it's worth the 3000 mile trip to spend the week with some great guys and some great golf. My uncle is actually from Jersey, near Tom's River.

I've heard others say Grand Dunes is very nice, and at 8000 yards, thats a monster. A couple guys that play with us each year are from Kentucky. Those guys are some of the nicest people I've ever met. You guys are all right down there!
