Local weather says it should be above freezing by next thursday, just before the next ice storm scheduled for next saturday and sunday.

Oh and dont even think about hitting the green aim short and let it bounce up. Greens around here werent even frozen just frosted up pretty good and I was out practicing so I took many different shots at it and even a full on straight up and down flop would land and roll right off the otherside. While I took a little chip shot and it runs right up nice and slow and stops another idea is to use the putter. One hole I was 50ft out with 25ft of green to run to the hole and it worked so Id say try that too if your a decent putter.

Now there is the one TRUE golfer I was looking for -- knocking it around in Michigan in January!

I wanna know which courses let you out on frosted greens? No one around here would. Thankfully it wasn't frozen here in December, or even into January. Even the snow we got last weekend melted in short order.

Almost forgot to add a good tip for winter golf is keep the ball low. Allows for longer shots and it can make up for the poor conditions. I was keepin it down and even though the fairway wasnt frozen over I was hittin my 3i driver distance due to hittin the frozen ground and all and bouncin toward hole. Really makes up for the not able to stop the shot on the green.

our local course a nine hole tract stays open for play thru the winter for free. I have golfed here in central wisconsin every month except Feb. I dont mind rock solid greens but do draw the line when the ground is covered with a couple inches of snow. I leave the driver home as Im afraid if cracking the head in temps below 32. Also use cavity back clubs so mishits dont feel quite so severe(x-14 with rifle shafts). I try to practice my knock down game as high bounces on frozen tundra are unpredictible.

when in Rome do as well I guess that quote doesnt apply. Maybe the cold has affected my reasoning.

You guys are nuts. I've played at least a couple of times every month here in SE Mich since Feb 2005, but I draw the line when everything is frozen. Play on guys !!

OK, I am officially ****ed..... I have now been 8 days without hitting a ball and it looks like the weather is not going to cooperate until at least Wednesday. Next weekend has spotty chances on Saturday and none on Sunday due to rain.

I feel a road trip coming on.. I wonder how far south I will have to go to find a course open.. Probably at least 3 or 4 hours. I am having withdrawal symptoms and it is a given that by Friday, I will be on my way to warmer weather to get my game on.

I can (and do) play in the rain, but not in 2" per hour gully-washers. That is what they are predicting for us as well as temps in the mid-30's. That is miserable no matter what kind of gear you've got. Also, with a lot of rain in the last few days, as well as some snow and ice, we are probably going to have flooding conditions... That is why the road trip.. Not just the rain.
