Hilton Head

Does anyone know a good place to stay in or within 45 minutes of Hilton Head? I am taking my Uncle there to play Harbour Town and I haven't been in 10 years. I stayed at a motel 6 on the island which would be fine again but if I could stay off the island and find a cabin type setup or a condo it would be nice.

Also looking for a second course to play (long weekend trip) and last time I played the Golden Bear course at Indigo Run. Is there another 'must play' on the island? (I know they are all probably great).

Thanks guys.

There is a motel called the Beachwalk Motel just a mile or so away from the entrance to Sea Pines. This motel was a Holiday Inn Express until early last year. It is in a terrific location to "do" Hilton Head and its winter rates look to be about $60 for a 2 queen room. My wife and I stayed there twice this past summer and fall. They have an excellent continental breakfast and a beautiful pool area, tho swimming is not advised before April unless you are a polar bear. The motel is still in pretty good shape, worlds better than the Motel 6 to be sure, but it has fallen slightly from its HI EX days.

This should get you started. To get there go onto Hilton Head and go all the way until you hit a traffic circle. Go around it, and turn off at the next road after the Sea Pines entrance road. You will be going toward the ocean. In fact, the motel is just two blocks from the surf. It will be on your left just past Shipyard (incidently, avoid the courses at Shipyard).

While you are there, if you like Greek food, do yourself a favor and go to a place in Coligny Plaza (which is about a block past that motel) called Market Street or Market Garden or Market something.... It is a quaint hole in the wall but you will have an excellent dining experience.
