We are heading down to the BEACH in late May, and was wondering, or hoping for some suggestions on which courses to play. 3 of us are around 14's and the other is about a 20. We are planing on 10 rounds, 5 are booked at MBN courses (West, King's North, Willbrook, River Club, Litchfield). We are staying up near Arcadian Shores, but not against driving. Looking for reasons to play courses... REALLY need help here!
I recommend playing Caledonia, True Blue both in Pawley Island which is close to the Willbrook, River Club and Litchfield. For courses on the northern side you can't go wrong with any of the Barefoot Landing courses. Also recommend Glen Dornach, Crows Creek, International World Tour. I have played all of these course ecept some of the Barefoot courses. They are all quality courses and fall in the higher end price wise.
I go to Myrtle every year...well (North Myrtle) Best courses up North are all of BareFoot Landing, Glen Dornoch, Heather Glen, Legends (I've only played Morland), Tidewater (prepare to pay at least 135 to even look at that course), and WildWing Plantation.
On the cheaper side, Possom Trot, Eagle Nest, Diamond Back, Oyster Bay, Bay Tree, EastPort, Cypress Bay, SandPiper Bay,
I've played about 12 different courses in myrtle beach, some are listed. The best by far was Grande Dunes. It's a new course, only three years old. It's a 77.3 rating and almost 8000 yards from the tips. Water and of course by the name a thousand bunkers come into play. It was rated top 50 you can play by golf magazine a couple of months ago.
I have played Grande Dunes too. I actually forgot about that course. It is a definite must play. Good layout and very challenging. If it is winding it is very difficult. Three most diccult courses in Myrtle Beach that I have played are True Blue, Glen Dornoch, and Grande Dunes. I believe they all have a slope over 140 from the championship tees.
Legends Courses are tough. I know the Moreland has a hole (par 3). I think its around 180 yards or so and the tee box is grass and the green is grass, everything else is sand, nothing but sand. So if you botch a tee shot, you're playing from the bunker the rest of the way. There is also a sand trap I think they call it ****'s half acre. Its a HUGE trap that I don't even know how deep it is, but very tough to get out of.
A lot of great courses have already been suggested but I would add just one. "Tiger Eye" It's a short drive from North Mrytle Beach but absolutely worth it. Of all the courses I've played it's the one that's impressed me the most. A great layout that's a joy to see and play. Well worth it!
You should find the prices are very reasonable in May and tee times after 12:00 can get you great deals on all these courses. A great place for information can be found at www.golfholiday.com. They have been promoting golf in Mrytle Beach for years. Great Course and specials info.
