It's much better than the 10 day slap on the wrist the guys are getting now. I think then you'd see guys step back and avoid them. I hope the Players Association will go for it and we can see an accomplishment for what it's worth rather than wondering if a guy was juiced when he did it.
I like the idea of the 50 and 100 games suspended, but I think the "3rd offense and you're out" is a little harsh. I would rather see players "suspended for a season instead."
Now when a player get suspended do they still receive a paycheck?
When they're suspended they do lose their check. Actually I'd rather see them get suspended 81 games for offense #1, 162 for offense #2, and permanently for their third offense. In any real job a positive drug test gets you fired, but in sports it merits a few weeks' pay loss, which essentially amounts to pocket change when you're making $5 million or more a year.

I disagree, steroids are illegal, and like others have said if an average Joe fails a drug test at work he gets fired. If these guys fail a steroid drug test they are obviously trying to cheat and they know it.
sometimes in our world people get ahead by lying and cheating, this makes it harder for the honest person to get what they really deserve. This proposal is a step in the right direction to limit some of that, good job.

I'm with this one! Why are we "negotiating" something that's illegal?
I've been listening to this topic on the radio all year and it still bugs me.
I'm sure there are plenty of "other sport" athletes on this board. I find it hard to believe you could "mistakenly" take something illegally twice.
That would have to be a pretty big "oops". But even then, I'd say ok, let's review it before deciding.
But has anyone (politicians included) ever addressed the fact that "someone" out there is supplying it? Stop it there also! Not to mention our high profile entertainers (athletes included here) are just setting an all out bad example?
Money has changed the morality of some entertainers, but should it change society's?
It is about time baseball cleans up some of the mess. America's past time has become less of a game due to threatened strikes and steroids. Something had to be done if MLB did not want to start looking like the NBA.
Baseball may not be having a choice soon. There was a proposal this week in Congress for all four major sports to have the same standards....a 2 year ban for the first offense and a lifetime ban for the second, with 5 tests per player per year. Honestly, I hope it gets passed. The stiffer the penalties for those caught cheating, the better off the sport will be.
