Softball includes a larger, softer ball. It can't be thrown as fast, so it's usually pitched underhand, and doesn't fly as far when hit either. Baseballs are smaller, harder and thrown overhand typically. Other than that, the games are pretty much the same.

re

Baseball differs from Softball quite a bit.
Lets talk defense.
In baseball you have 8 fielders and a pitcher. In Softball you have 9 fielders and then the pitcher. There are many different defensive sets in Baseball. Lets talk about a straight up defense. Albert Pujols is coming up to bat. He is a power hitter with power to all fields. How would set your defense? Do you play your infield in or do you keep them back so they could reach a ball in the "hole?" Softball has the same mind set. I try to discover a hitters weakness before we play him/ her. I am a true believer in scouting teams. If Bill is a slap hitter I want to pitch him high, my infield back, and my outfield a couple of steps in. That way when Bill slaps the ball over the infield both defensive sets has an above average chance of catching the ball.

The swing in softball is totally different from baseball, too. In baseball the pitcher provides the power. In softball you have to. I have studied many types of swings over the years. The most effective swing is a LEVEL swing. I even drop my lefthand down below the knob of the bat and I overlap my top hand. That gives me even more bat speed/ leverage. I do not recommend this type of swing if you are a beginner...The Overlap Grip. The best way to teach yourself to hit is practice practice practice. I still hit on average of 200 to 300 balls every other day. Even during winter.
If you have anymore questions feel free to ask. I have been involved with softball for over 15 years now. I have played for a world title and I have several state titles. I have had the pleasure of being sponsored by Wilson ( Demarini) in 2003. I have hit over 700 HR's in my career. I will be more than happy to answer each question.
