I went to the Southland game last night. What a game, what a night (well what I can remember of it.) A 26-16 victory to the British Lions over the 9th ranked team in NZ last year.
The Lions are going to the trashing of a lifetime in on Saturday in the first test. I just haven't seen anything about them that makes me think they have much chance. They just seem to be trouble doing the basics. Eg catching the ball.
I see Woodward has named Wilkinson at inside centre, with Jones at 1st five and Peel at halfback. My take is that he wants a smooth transtion from thr forwards to back so he's linked up Peel and Jones, just because of how often they've played together in the Welsh side.

They say you never beat the All Blacks, only score more points.
We shall see.Our group are delaying our tee off time from 8.30 a.m. on Saturday morning to 11, so we'll be sitting in the clubhouse, bacon sandwich in hand, cheering on the boys.
I got tickets Brilliant. Even got the plane tickets to fly up as well. My uncles just went into hospital so he gave me mine. I'm stoked (about the tickets, not my uncle) On the 10 metre line at halfway, in the stands. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
J.Wilkinson ,purveyor of winning kicks, inside centre for the winners.
Have a look at the most important athlete thread, I'm introducing the Americans to cricket and rugby, it's a gas. If you can introduce great AllBlacks, Glen turner etc, they will be completly confused.
What a game, well done McCaw, Umaga and co. Oh yeah and our 16th player, more commonly known as Shayne Burne. :nodsmiley O'Driscoll knew he was going to get thrashed so fakes an injury, Hill soon follows. Not to mention that big ugly looking locks look of disbelief when he's sent to bin. He deserved to tarred and feathered coming from that far offside.
Yes we know, we butchered a few trys, on purpose of course. We didn't want to humiliate Clive to much in the first test, we'll leave that to next week at The Caketin. Carter and Maguer in the midfield prove you can have 2 No10's play together, but only if there from the same country. Jack was my player of the day. He pinched lineout ball all day, walked off the field with a few tag marks on back **** Bit on the chilly side though.
Note# Anyone else notice Wilkinson only kicked 50%

I agree, he understood the Lions lineout calls better than Byrne. Mind you, I thought you were not allowed to bounce opposition out of the lineout ,he got away with it all day. Yet again All Blacks end a top player's tour and nothing happens.
Grewcock deserved to get suspended, but the All Blacks were lucky to get way withe the spear, both should have been cited and suspended for rest of season. But everyone knows that's what happens in NZ (and South Africa)
