I know there's at least one of ya here, and I can't believe it took me this long to remember you guys, but last week I got a signed copy of "Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer" by Warren St. John. If you haven't heard of it, I highly suggest picking it up! I could care less about Alabama football, frankly, and I LOVE this book! It's really a great read for any sports fan, and I'm sure that goes tenfold for Bama fans.
It almost follows in the same vein as Nick Hornby's "Fever Pitch", where even if you don't understand any of the players or places he's talking about, you can transplant yourself there via your own experiences. It's just good stuff!
That is absolutely a fantastic book! I've read it more than once, and will definitely read it again...And, coming from one who has seen many Game Days in Tuscaloosa, it really paints a great picture...I'm getting chills thinking about T-Town on Saturdays in the Fall! But, then again, why would you ever think I was a Bama fan...
Tuscaloosa on you-know-which-Saturday is an absolutely fantastic football environment. Just an awesome campus to walk through on the way to a football game. I'm glad the UT-Bama game is there now and not at Legion.

Tuscaloosa.... .....their game day enviroment is nothing compared to South Carolina's.......or Georgia's, or UcheaT's, or LSU's, or Clemson , or "the swamp," or even Arkansas (at Little Rock) for that matter.....i just wasn't very impressed with this "college football powerhouse's" enviroment.....maybe it was because we were beating them handily ;)......ok i will stop
BTW....for only seating about 45-50 thousand people....Little Rock was by far the loudest

South Carolina's is pretty good indeed. I wish the endzone seats were actually close to the field, though. The Swamp itself was the loudest place I'd ever heard for a long time (I was there in the rain when they scored 48 straight against UT in '95), but the atmosphere outside the stadium isn't the best I've seen. I'd like to go to Baton Rouge, as long as I knew I wouldn't be harmed. The stadium makes all the difference in game atmosphere, and I think the enclosed, steep stadiums like Tiger and Neyland are perfect. I absolutely can't imagine what it's like for an opposing quarterback in one of those places.
I can say that for its size and design, Bryant-Denny is a very, very loud stadium.

I'm sure that handy beating was largely due to your long snapping...But, I should congratulate you on beating a third string team, as we were when playing SC...I guess you've got to be a part of a tradition to understand one...Although, these other schools mentioned do have great gameday atmospheres as well, I'm just a bit partial...I've spent many Saturday's up in the Blue Ridge Mtns watching the Tigers run down the hill(my wife = Clemson Alum), I've been to Baton Rouge under the lights(and saw Shaun Alexander single-handidly win a football game), I've seen the Volunteer Navy outside of Neyland(and yelled the Rammer Jammer song as we won against ut for the 1st time in 7 years), I've been to Jordan Hare(and seen some priceless faces of some aubies), I've been to Sanford Stadium(sat in the student section with my Bama gear on), and last but not least, to the Sugar Bowl to see an underrated No. 2 Crimson Tide team totally humiliate a highly touted Miami Hurricane team and win the school's 12th National Title...I've been to lots of places to watch football, but for me, there's nothing like Bryant Denny Stadium on a fall afternoon! My friend, you can never tell me that the University of Alabama has an awful gameday atmosphere...

Just finished the book (in 6.5 days, possibly a record for me! ), and I was a little disappointed that he glossed over the Orange Bowl from that year. GO BLUE!

Well i will have to say that my long snapping did contribute a great deal....if i wouldn't ave made a good snap on FG and PAT's we wouldn't have scored the pts that we did.....i had my hand in on 8 of those 20 pts....i would say it was largely due to my long snapping....i wouldn't underestimate it.....just ask the NY Giants of 2 season ago when the 49ers beat them.
You my friend have been to alot of stadiums as have I.....i was just stateing my opinion of B-D stadium.....nothing against you or bama fans.....just giving my opinion......
GO HOGS! Now that everybody knows where I stand the two teams that I live to beat are Bama and Tenn. Of course I like to whip LSU too but that is the SEC. The best football conference in the NCAA. By the way Auburn got robbed last year. The BCS needs to go.

Scott, I do apologize...I watched the game, and I do know the importance of Snappers...I just get Super-Defensive about my Tide...
Ahhh..you can tell football season is right around the corner. I love it!
I'll state I'm a long-suffering Gamecock fan.
Scott, you know I like ya man, but we(Gamecocks) are in no positition to say anything about The Tide. If your talking about tradition..their is none richer than in Tuscaloosa. Granted we took the crowd out of the game last year, but I can assure you Bryant-Denny is normally one of the most extremely intimidating places to play.
As far as the stadiums I've been to...I'd have to rate our's in the middle of the pack of the SEC. Now when Spurrier gets this thing going like I know he can...probably not this year...but soon...that baby will be "Swayin" again.
That's right...for the visitors who aren't aware...the upper deck actually sways a couple of feet when it gets really racious in the CockPit. My recollection of the "swayin" aspects started in the 1983 Southern Cal game. It's terrifying at first glance, especially if your sitting under it...but realize eventually it was meant to give somewhat. I'll be honest though, since they moved the band down to the lower deck, years ago...it doesn't sway nearly as much.
The Swamp takes the honors IMO as the loudest place, LSU at night is a close second, Sanford might be next, Neyland(cramming 108k in like sardines) gets loud as you can imagine. However, you get one obese person on your row...your absolutely screwed for 3+ hours . Bryant-Denny I'd rate next.
Haven't been to Little Rock or Jordan Hare, but understand they're something else as far as noise generated. I'd rate our place in that second tier somewhere.
We may not all agree on this particular subject, but I bet we can all agree the passion of SEC football is second to none.
IMO, our Bama game, strictly as a fan speaking here, will have a lot to do with the outcome of our season. IMO it's THE critical early season "swing" game. I'm sure Brodie Croyle and Co. are licking their chops for revenge after last year's game, especially being short-handed as pointed out. We expect in all out war from Bama this year. CBS picked it up for it's national 3:30 KO(eastern time).
I've got that game circled even ahead of annual rival Georgia the week before. Clemson, of course is always circled.
College Football...I love it even more than golf.
Go Cocks!(no need to edit this word...just imagine 85,000 screaming that in unison. I love to take a date their for the first time and see her expression when she initially hears it )

For anyone who might be in Cola the weekend of the Bama game, maybe we could meet and do some type of tailgate thing...I'll be up there with the in-laws, and would love to meet some of you guys/gals, gamecock fans or tide fans...

Major's fan.....i don't recall ever downing the tradition of Bama football.....they with out a doubt have one of the best if not the very best traditions in college football ever.....i was just complementing on B-D stadium not impressing me as much as it was hyped.....maybe it was because we took them out of the game.....but also that was my first time there so i probably don't have room to talk.
I would rank the SEC stadiums like this......Memorial Stadium @ Little Rock, the Swamp, LSU, that 90,00 seat stadium in Tenn that they cram 108,000 in, Williams-Brice , Sanford, Bama, Ole Miss, UK, Vandy.......those are just the stadiums i have been to or played at.
Now i think with the improvments that spurrier has already made to our stadium i think Williams Brice will be moving up SEC fans list.....it is getting more home like.....visually looking better.....if they would just give it a name like...."The COCKPIT".....if people would complain about the 4 letter word in there that means chicken
I haven't circled any games yet...i think every game should be circled because we ave alot to prove.
Oh and majorsfan........GAME..........COCKS.......GAME... ....COCKS........GAME........COCKS........GAME.... ....COCKS........followed by 2001........everyone jummping up and down......i don't care what people say.....best entry in college football!!!!
