Kenny Rogers

By now, most of you who have viewed Sportscenter in the last few weeks know of the incident Rangers pitcher Kenny Rogers had with the cameraman. This weekend, Kenny decided that he would attend the All Star game in Detroit because he was voted in by the players and felt it was his right to go. What do you think...should he have stayed home or been forced to stay home by MLB (he is appealing a 20 game suspension currently), or should he go to honor his brilliance on the mound so far this year?

Personally, this situation is much like the "Pete Rose in the HOF" argument.....he shouldn't be at the All Star game because his conduct has been such a detriment to baseball that he should just be barred from competing there. At some point his worthiness as a player is overshadowed by his unworthiness as a person.

I've not met a lot of professional athletes. But the one thing I've come to realize, THEY'RE ALL COCKY!! Probably started with being high school/jr. high "stars". Or maybe the college fraternities. I don't know. Tony Stewart's the same way. That man needs some help too.

Man, some of them get away with murder and then a slap on the wrist and they're told to "go out and play." If you take away what they love the most, they will change. OR suffer.

I don't think Rogers should be kept from going or playing in the All-Star game. But if he were a quality human being with morals and not such a fool, maybe he'd sit out on his own and make an apology.

Actually, he has made an apology. I think last Wednesday he had a press conference to apologize and was making plans to visit with the photographers involved.

It's a touchy situation, mostly just because of the timing of it. I really don't think I'd compare him with Pete Rose for being a "detriment to baseball". Dude snapped. It was a bad scene, and maybe since its so fresh and there is a suspension pending, he shouldn't play. But if it happened in April, and the suspension was served already, would having this "detriment to the game" play in the All-Star game make a difference? That's the part I'm not sure about.

The bad part of this is that it happened on the field, in front of cameras. Ballplayers have done alot worse to tarnish their name (and other than this incident, Rogers seems to have a solid reputation) away from the field (drug/alcohol use, domestic violence, etc), but nothing seems to get blown up like this, for some reason.

I thin the "I apology" = "I am dumb and I can get away with it"... no harsh punishment means no corrective action on these primadonnas

I agree. What Rogers did really wasn't all that horrible although, if I were the cameraman, I would've cold-cocked the ***.

He has been suspended and, hopefully, fined. I think that's enough. He's worthy of being in the all-star game and he should go.
