Anyone who remembers me here last October knows that I can't lay off talking baseball for too long, so I figured now would be a good time to, since the season passed its midway point not too long ago and the all-important non-waiver trade deadline is coming up July 31. What are your thoughts on the season so far? Is your team faring better or worse than you expected? See any blockbuster trades changing the face of the postseason races significantly?
my team the braves are doing allright They are no longer the pitching dominant team that they used to be for so long, now they have to rely on a solid team effort to get things done. Im happy that smoltz is back to starting this year. I remember growing up watching Maddux-glavine-smoltz- and Avery. along with otis nixon terry pendleton, david justice fred mcgriff, ron gant, sid bream, jeff blauser, mark lemke.....YEAH that was only back in the 90's but that is when I was growing up. im only 19 bout to be 20. Baseball is my first love, played for 14 years, then got a seperated shoulder and a herniated disk, but Im gonna try to get back in shape and tryout for my college team.
Oh come on league..... I mean, I only had, what, 303 posts in that one thread about the playoffs last year? That isn't too excessive for three weeks' time is it?
However...Michelle Wie...there's a different animal. You've made much progress lately so it doesn't bring you out quite as fast anymore I see. Although I think Dante rather enjoyed watching you get "flushed out of the brush" each time the subject came up.

Leave it to you to bring her up in a BASEBALL thread. My feelings about Wie and her attempts to make a cut on the PGA Tour haven't changed. Like her continued failures, my comments were becoming redundant and no longer created the interest they once did.
The Cards are looking good. Carp and Morris are pitching great (except for yesterday ) and should provide them with two ace-type pitchers come playoff time, which is what really killed them against the Red Sox last year. If Mulder can regain some consistency and pitch the way he has for most of his career, I believe that core of pitchers, along with the good (although not as good as last year with Rolen and Edmonds underperforming and Walker just getting old) offense, can carry them through the NL. Houston is making a charge now and with Clemens, Oswalt and Pettite, they're the team that worries me the most as a possible playoff opponent. The AL is more evenly balanced I think as the Red Sox, White Sox and Angels all have the look of possible World Series teams. It will be interesting to see what the deadline brings for some of the contenders. I don't think there'll be any blockbusters this year, but there always seems to be a surprise trade of a big name, so we'll see if that's the case again.
I got the chance to see my Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday - got great seats above home plate... exciting ball club, probably too inconsistent right to contend down the stretch, especially minus Halladay. I think they'll be the spoilers this year, and if they add some pitching they could be strong in a year or two.
Losing Halladay was a big blow for the Jays. He was the best pitcher in the AL I thought and while they probably weren't going anywhere anyway, he sure wouldn't have hurt.
Well, I would have thrown in my 2 cents (and maybe a few more dollars as well ) in the end anyway....I just wanted to let someone else respond before I gobbled up all the air space in here with my well-known propensity for windiness when it comes to the Cards.
Tonight Greg Maddux became the 13th pitcher in MLB history to surpass 3000 Ks. I didn't think of Greg as much of a strikeout guy, but congrats to him on the accomplishment.
