The two biggest individual awards... While a World Series win woulda been the ultimate award, the fact that Chris Carpenter and Albert Pujols (finally!! ) won the NL Cy Young and MVP, respectively, says a lot about how well the team played this season. Congrats to those two on great seasons, as well as the other guys who had fine seasons in their own right but came up short in the voting. Derek Lee would likely have been MVP if the Cubs didn't stink, and Andruw Jones leading the NL in HRs and RBI was an impressive double, although his low average was what did his MVP chances in. Dontrelle Willis also had a fine year for the Marlins, although he had a few more losses than Carp, and Roger Clemens had an amazing year at his age (or any other), posting that sub-2.00 ERA.
Congrats to Carpenter and Pujols and watch for the Carsds in '06 baby!
Yes, and the Royals! Okay, maybe not the Royals, but they do give you a lot of free stuff at their games... I guess it's the only way to get anyone into the ball park.
I live right in the middle of the state, so I like both teams to some degree. I got to see one of the cardnals vs. royals games in Kansas City. I have a set of Royals covers for my drivers, and I have a set of cardinals covers. I usually keep the cardinals ones on because people laugh at me when I have the royals ones on. Although people here are much bigger cardinal fans. Hence, I'm really a bigger cards fan, although my girlfriend is from the east coast, so loves the Red Sox
By the way, anybody as excited as I am about going into the new stadium next year?

I liked the look of old Busch Stadium, but the new one is going to be pretty cool looking. Hopefully they can start out next year with a bang...World Series title sounds like a nice opening act for the 2006.

For sure. The old Bush stadium was very cool (memories!), but it will be nice to see them win a world series with the new stadium. I will go to, at least, one game there, but probably more.
If I lived closer to St. Louis, I'd make sure to get to a game there as well...but alas, I'm 700 miles away. Maybe when I'm older.
I've been reading a disturbing rumor on some of the MLB boards...about a possible trade between the Cardinals and Yankees. Supposedly, the Cards get Robinson Cano and Chien-Ming Wang, the Yankees get Jim Edmonds. While the Cards could use a second baseman, and a young one wouldn't hurt, I don't like giving up one of the cornerstones of the offense to get him. Suppose Rolen isn't effective next season? Then who hits in the 4 hole behind Pujols? Reggie Sanders? I shudder to think of that. It would free up a good bit of salary, but for what? To sign Brian Giles, who's the same age as Edmonds, will cost the same, hits about the same, but can't even touch his defensive abilities? This would be a significant downgrade and IMO would cripple the Cardinals chances of fielding a World Series-winning ballclub during this time period when time is starting to run out. So please Walt, don't do it!!!
That's quite disturbing... Hopefully it won't happen. Why a someone a lot better at second base would be good, I don't know why they would trade off Edmonds. I think I'm going to be sick...
Yeah, it bothers me to think that they could be breaking in the new stadium without Jimmy playing center for them...the lineup could really struggle early if he's not in it, unless Rolen has another year like 2004.
Weldtech........You're new here so it's understandable that you don't know any better yet, but it's it's common knowledge here on GR that you just don't get Stlcard_25 talking baseball! He preys on all the new members who are forced to go along with his Cardinal bla bla bla bla bla for fear of not fitting in.
Don't worry and pay him and his baseball rantings no mind. You fit in just great and I'm sure you have a lot to add to this site. Just try to avoid the baseball thing.........believe me, we'll all be better off!
What's wrong with baseball? Other than golf it's probably the best sport ever invented, but okay... after I say that Rolen didn't have a great year this year, but I think it's been his worste season yet, and hopefully things will pick back up for him next year.
