Well, I tried as long as I could to deny it, but my beloved Cards are on the verge of pulling off the most ingnominious collapse in baseball history. A week ago, the standings looked like this:
Sorry for ya, but my wife has been depressed ever since the Braves were officially ousted from being champs another year! I've always liked the Cards, would like to see em go all the way.

I'm starting to lose the faith here.
they just didn't want you to get complacent. more ticket sales and higher veiwership on the tube.

Depressed? Ya, those 15 or 16 straight divisional titles have been rough on her. Tell her she has my sympathy.
Looks like the Bravos took down the Rocket and the Cards are (fingers crossed) taking care of business against the Brew Crew. I had a good feeling this afternoon about tonight's game, for some reason...here's hoping we hold on tonight and do our part to make Monday an off day (which is when the make-up with the Giants would be if the lead is not .5 or more games).
Hopefully we can wrap it up tomorrow so Carpenter can be saved. (if our bullpen gets through tonight)
I think that's the key...which makes me a huge Bravos fan right now (as digusting as that is to say). IF we could wrap it up, Carp going in game one of any series would give us a great shot at going up 1-0. Taking the first game of a 5 game set puts a lot of pressure on the trailing team, for sure. I was impressed by the way Reyes pitched the other night and Suppan has been rock solid except for his last start...the cupboard isn't totally bare there, but we have to take care of the division before we get into thinking about the playoffs.

I knew it was going to be tough going into Atlanta. The Braves are looking for some payback for last year.
Man, got lucky today, thanks to Spezio, Wainright looks solid, He oughta be our closer next year and trade Izzy for a starter or something.
Now all that needs to happen is Houston to lose, unfortunately they've jumped out to a first inning lead.
Houston scored 3 in the 9th to win 5-4...looks like we're gonna have to burn Carp tomorrow to seal this thing. I'd much rather see us throw Reyes out there and take our chances...since it's looking like game 1 in San Diego or LA would go to Weaver or Reyes. I wouldn't like to see either of them pitching the most pivotal game of a short series.
Looks like Atlanta took down the Astros to let us sneak into the playoffs. Thanks Braves, and good job Astros for making us sweat (profusely at times) here at the end of the season!
BTW, the Cards themselves are getting beaten 5-0...Anthony Reyes got shelled and never made it out of the first inning.
^^^The positive, our bullpen has only given up 1 run through 6 2/3. Astros left 18 on base in their game. Cards have Carp to go in game 1 and hopefully won't be needed for a second game in the first series. Thanks Bravos, and lets get some offense going Cards.

That is one positive...I'm not sure, but has Tony set the playoff roster yet? I wouldn't let Marquis within a mile of the stadium if I were him. I'd stick with a rotation of Carp, Suppan, Weaver and Reyes if necessary. I wouldn't even trust Marquis in the bullpen. Our offense doesn't seem to be on track right now, but with Eck, Duncan (or Wilson), Pujols, Rolen, Edmonds, Encarnacion, Belliard and Molina, you have to figure they'll find a way to score a few runs. Of course I figured the same all year and look where that got us.
