5 BEST ATHLETES- now

Got into a conversation last night about who are the greatest athletes from the major sports right now. Not so much about their success, but all around athleticism. We had some of the same on our list of 5, but some different. I post the results if anyone is interested of the 5 we settled on. I sent the results to STL Card 25 in his PM. In the meantime, I'd like to hear yours.

Are you talking athleticism such as speed, strength, etc. regardless of their talent? Or are you still talking about great talent along with that speed, strength, etc.

Just kind of trying to get an idea, I'll check back in the morning and give a few people.

Great talent, speed, strength, success, agility. You get the idea.

Jim Furyk/Ernie
Kabamba Floors (rugby) - you should see this guy when gets going!
Makhaya Ntini (cricket)
Ryk Neethling (swimming)
Michael Schumacher (Formula 1)
+
John Cena (he-he-he... according to a little young lady in our house. Hey! he qualifies in all criteria!)

Sorry, but (re the unfamiliar names) I just couldn't resist coming in with a sidewinder from SA.

HA!!!!
Thanks Incx - I just lip-launched about twenty thousand spittles right onto my screen!
PS: You forgot to mention Chuck's superior acting abilities & finesse when it comes to serious, sensitive roles. Why they chose Morgan Freeman over him for 'Driving Miss Daisy' I'll never savvy

I'd agree with the first 4, but instead of Ichiro I'll put Albert Pujols. Thats kinda funny, I live in WA and I'm choosing Pujols, while you're username is STLCards and you chose Ichiro.

And on a side not, its Ronaldinho.

Of course we can only talk about athletes we know about, but I bet there are rugby players, or Turkish goat stomach polo players, or martial artists that we don't even know about who would just amaze us.

Ever seen the videos of those Russian kids that climb buildings and go up walls like Spiderman? How about Olympic pentathletes? I start thinking of all the different sports around the world, and how few I follow, and me trying to pick 5 seems futile.

I saw the original list LE sent me, but since I can only remember one on that list for sure, I'll come up with my own....

LT
Lebron
Justin Gatlin
A-Rod
Does Lance Armstrong count? I know he's a year removed from his days of dominance, but still...

If not him, then I suppose I'd go with Mike Vick or Jose Reyes...both very good all-around athletes who haven't (or in Vick's case, won't) reached their potential.

Lance Armstrong ran the NY marathon in under 3 hours without training for it recently. That's athletic if you ask me.
