Bad call against Texas

AT&T

How does a booth replay official make a penalty call? Not only that but there was no video proof the man on the sideline touched the ball. The ball showed no signs of its movement of direction or spin changing so the official(s) had to make an assumption or guess and even if they had seen a change in the movement there was no flag thrown on the field so the play should have stood as called.
You didn't see the replay officials change the interception by Texas where the defender clearly contacted the receiver before he deflected the pass that was intercepted by a teammate. Just hate to see bad calls so if you're going to let replay officials make penalty calls then use it where it is correct.

Re: Bad call against Texas

Penalty should have been called by the field official, for sure, for him being on the field with a ball in play... I know that often happens when the play has passed, coaches and players creep onto the field behind a run or pass play to get a better view, and officials know to look the other way. But that ball was live and the play was coming at the Texas side - the call was correct in it's scope, but should have been called on the field. Touching the ball may have been the call, correct or not, but the penalty is interference due to his being in the field of play...

But it wasn't called on the field so therefore it should have been a no call and the person didn't touch the ball and there was no way that the replay official could have seen that he did. It was a totally blown call and if they are on the field they get a warning until they have done it three times then they get a sideline infraction. You don't change possession of the ball because a guy stands on the field. You add a penalty to the team that created the infraction. If the referee wanted to penalize them then it would have been Texas' ball and step off a penalty. The guy on the field didn't change the play or alter someones chance to make a play on the ball as we saw.
