Rivalry weekend

Over the next two weekends, most of the big college football rivalry games are going to be played. In our house, the big game is always USC / UCLA - and it comes with a twist that always makes for a rather unique viewing experience: I'm for SC , while my wife (who was led astray by her family as a child) roots for UCLA.

It doesn't matter if we watch the big game by ourselves or with a room full of partisan friends - it gets pretty loud and boisterous. Some years we've gone so far as to run masking tape down the family room floor & declaring SC and UCLA territories, and with the food on one side of the line and the beer on the other, it can get kind of interesting (though it didn't take long to realize that we had to declare the bathroom neutral territory ).

So... anyone else come from a "split household"? If so, how does it play out on game day?

Re: Rivalry weekend

well its funny. that you bring this up. in college football the big rivalry game in my family has been one of the first weeks of the year. me as a fan of the U and my brother a fan of the FSU the game has been played labor day weekend last couple of years. and normally the miami fsu games are pretty good either way the score ends up. field goal here a field goal there haha.

but then there comes college basketball where i'm a duke fan and my brother is a tar heels fan. those games are pretty good.

but then there is pro hockey i'm a sabres fan and my bro is a rangers fan and the best game we watched between the two was the one we seen live. went to a shootout rangers won /cry.

but sports are great i love them thats why i think i took up golf as fast and hard as i did. i missed playing sports when i was in high school. i'm just hopeing i'll be ready for the super super old man pro golf tour when i'm older (if they make one haha)

Re: Rivalry weekend

The big rivalry for my area was Alabama - Florida. And heads are still hung low in The Panhandle.

Re: Rivalry weekend

When I was at FSU we had no rivalry games. We were 0-11. There were 3 coaches in 2 years.
Earlier, when I was in high school, FSU had better fortunes with Fred Belitnikof and Ron Sellers--in my opinion the best collegiate player ever, other than Herschel Walker. Will definitely be watching B. Bowden's last game on tv in Gator Bowl.
