They always have the same answer the Yanks buy their team, ah Yea no kidding that shows we have a good owner. The Yankees go out and bring the talent in, not just let it slip by like other teams, ie. the Sox and A-rod. Not only that the Sox have the second highest payroll in baseball and have basically bought their bull-pen.
It is not that the Yankees have a good owner, it is that they have their own TV station which generates millions of dollars that other teams simply don't have. Until baseball adopts a financial model like football has (which is the best model IMHO), there will be competitive imbalance which will hurt the validity of the game. You are correct - the Sox have the second highest payroll in baseball - at $125 mil. The Yankees have the highest at $200 mil. Huge difference between #1 and #2.

That should have been Kapler's error for a throw that was WAY off the mark...

He needed to go. We needed to get something for him as he was not going to resign with the Sox. He will end up in one of the California cities. That is where he wants to go.
Yes, its true they have their own television network but Steinbrenner has been bringing in the best players before YES was even introduced. Since the days of Reggie Jackson, Steinbrenner has been bringing in big players. YES was only introduced in 2002, Before that the Yanks had already won the series 4 times in 5 years. And they had big name players during that stretch. And even though it may have been Kapler's fault for the error made in the game, Cabrerra was still charged for it and the Sox did loose the game still validating my point, for the Garciapara curse.
The Sox ******* Nomar over this year, with all that stuff in the offseason about trading him for A-Rod. Then of course he got injured, and embellished that for awhile. And when he got back, it didn't seem like the Nomar of old.
Interesting sidenote here...When Nomar was getting traded, Theo (Epstein, Red Sox GM), was on the phone with the Cubs as Nomar walked in and it basically went like this:
Theo: "Nomar we're trading you to the Cubs, are you still injured"
Nomar: "I'm better now!"
Another reason they traded him was because his achilles was still sore, and he would've taken a bunch of time off in August, and they could'nt afford that.
The trade was garbage though. If they got a really good pitcher, it would've been worth it. What did they get? Another shortstop, not up to Nomar's calibre. A 'defensive' first-baseman - They already had one - McCarty. A right-fielder. They already had one - Kapler. The only possible goodness is that Dave Roberts is a fast runner, and they need that. But it definately wasn't worth Nomar.
And yeah, Kapler's throw ****** in that game where Cabrera was charged with the error.
The only reason I respect the Yankees is because that empire makes so much money. Except for the fact that they can buy their team. That *****.

sorry to get away from the yankees/red sox debate, but i am but a small market Twins fan.......there was a nice recap from a game over the weekend earlier in the thread....I'm glad they traded Dougie Alphabet, Justin Morneau is a huge offensive upgrade, and the Twins need any offensive upgrade they can find......we were in the Twin Cities last summer and the Twins game we were at just happened to be the day Morneau got called up to the bigs, we saw him get his first major league hit.....Go Twins!!
As you can probably guess by my name, I am a HUGE St. Louis Cardinals fan. I am very surprised by the way they have played so far but am not going to complain about it, that's for sure!! I just hope they can keep it up and make it through the playoffs without something disastrous happening for once, aka Rolen hurt on a freak play in 2002, Ankiel losing it in 2000, etc.
