Does the Grey Cup have the same kind of idiotic half-time show as the Super Bowl? If not, I'm going to make it a point to watch the Grey Cup this year!

One thing that I really like about the CFL is the motion allowed offensive backs prior to the snap. I really wish that the NFL would give that idea some consideration to spark a bit more offensive production.

When Doug Flutie was up in Canada, I followed his career as much as American TV coverage would allow.

Hi all,

Just a question but from the way the thread has gone I guess that Canadian football is a version of Grid-Iron and not Rugby Union as I first though when I seen the title of this thread. Also how is Rugby going in Canada and the U.S.?

Cheers,
Jim

In my area there are a few local rugby teams that get together on the the weekends to play. The only people watching the games are the players, a few friends, and their families. I wouldn't hold out much hope that the sport will catch on here in the States in a big way any time soon. Even ESPN doesn't seem to televise games from "down under" the way they used to--at least I haven't seen any lately.

Our "gridiron" football seems to satisfy the public's thirst for violent action, strategy, team play, and speed reasonably well. Soccer has had a hard enough time gaining popularity here. As for cricket and rugby--not much of a chance for wide acceptance at all.

I'm Canadian, so I think I am supposed to defend the CFL (been living in the UK for years now). But I'm not going to - the CFL is a poor version of the NFL, and almost every Canadian guy I know prefers the NFL. If the NFL ever came to Toronto, it would sell out every seat in minutes - **** I would even think about moving back!

Anyone remember when the owner of the Montreal Alouettes (or Concorde, not entirely sure what year it was) had a load of money and he convinced Vince Ferragamo to leave LA - I remember watching him try to pass to receivers, but they couldn't catch his passes as they weren't used to taking bullets in the chest!!

The CFL is a mildly interesting diversion, but the NFL is the real deal.
