Who do you guys think is going to win the ALCS. As a die-har Yankee fan I have to go with the Yankees. It seems like they always win no matter how tough the situation. There starting pitching has been struggling but their bull pen has been pretty much lights out. So who do you guys think will win Sox or Yanks? Will there be another B added to the Sox curse? Babe Ruth, Bill Buckner, Bucky Dent, Aaron Boone and maybe Bubba Crosby? We'll see.
If I had to put money on the series, I'd actually put money on the Red Sox. I think their combination of pitching and hitting makes them a better team than the Yankees. Then again, I could never put money on this series because I could never bring myself to cheer for either of these teams. I'm sure it will still be entertaining for me because there's sure to be fireworks.
I really think the Sox are the better team this year, but the Yankees always seem to find a way to win against them. That being said, I'm going to go with the Red Sox in 7 games just because of Curt Schilling. He will lead them on to the World Series.
Well, here in my room, there are no sharp objects. The only thing that may qualify is the plastic knives and I don't think they will do much damage
I'm still nervous as heck though, it seems like every writer who thought it was going to be a slam dunk Cards victory in the series is now saying, "wait a minute, the Dodgers CAN win the last two here." I hate sportswriters.

It's a sportswriter's job to make you nervous! It sells newspapers.
If they had all the answers, they wouldn't be writing for some rag. They'd be living it up in style on their gambling winnings.
Would you watch the games if the outcome was a foregone conclusion? My guess is, probably not. Being nervous is being a fan, and being a fan sometimes means making sure there are no sharp objects around when your team is headed for the dumpster! I've got the scars to prove it!
LOL leaguegolf, actually I would rather watch the game if it were a foregone conclusion, so long as my team wins! But I guess it's like I have heard Tiger (and many others, not to give too much credit to Tiger, but I have heard him say it, oh, every time he's near the lead in an event) say before, if you're not nervous it means you don't care. I will be on the edge of my seat tonight, I just pray my boys come through and send us into the NLCS!
Having just observed the Yankee hitters from less than 100' (yesterday, when they closed out my Twins), I must say that they are one scary lot. A lot of these guys are huge (didn't realize how big A Rod is). Gary Sheffield is a monster (not meant as a put-down): He's mammoth, digs in, crowds the plate, and swings from his heels. I've never seen anyone take cuts like he does.
History, of course, favors the Yankees. But I do see what Card is saying above about RedSox pitching. Guess I'd say the Sox have the best chance they've had in a while. But the Yankees seem to find a way into the World Series.
OK, enough avoidance of the question. I'm rooting for the Sox but picking the Yankees.

Okay, you can rest easy now.....at least for a couple of days! Then the nail-biting starts all over again. You better start pacing yourself or you ain't gonna make it!
I've got to agree with JimSomebody on this one. I'm pulling for the Sox but the Yanks are too tough. I wonder who Pedro's gonna beat up this year now that Zimmer is gone?
On that point, I was looking at Yankee player information and found that Hideki Matsui is 6'2" 230. I was so surprised, I thought he was much smaller. Even going to the games I didn't think he was that big, but I also never saw him standing next to anyone in comparison, usually its him standing in the Outfield.

I've never met many baseball players before but one thing's for sure. I've never met a "small" baseball player. It's probably like how I thought Rip Hamilton looked small during the NBA Finals but I'm sure he'd still tower over me.
So what's the latest on Rivera? I heard he might not play in this series because of his family tragedy at his home. I'm wondering what Yankees fans think he should do. This is certainly an important series and he's certainly an important part of the Yankee team but as 9/11 taught us, there are things more important than baseball. Any word yet?
All I know is he's taking a leave from the Yankees to deal with the death of his wife's cousin and his son in a pool accident. Accidental electrocution they say. My heart goes out to the Rivera family after this terrible incident. Like you said LG, baseball takes a backseat when things like this happen. The Yankees will probably keep a spot open for him in case he comes back during the series, he's too important for them to not take that risk. With the series being 7 games and spread out over a few more days, he may be ready to come back at some point.
Also, Schilling is no guarantee to go for the Sox in game 1 with his injury, so the Red Sox have a few concerns, although they pale in comparison to Rivera's, of their own.
From the baseball perspective I'm not too worried because if he doesn't return for the first game, the Yanks have Flash Gordon to come in and close. He actually had the most saves in Red Sox history, with 46 I believem back in '98 for the Sox, so he knows what he is doing.
