Unbelievable - Shaun Alexander "stabbed in the back"

Yesterday Seattle held off Atlanta 28-26 to cinch the NFC West Title & a home playoff game. But that's not what matters to Shaun Alexander. Apparently coach Holmgren had the audacity to call a QB sneak for their final score with 4:30 left in the game. The hero of our story, Shaun, was apparently 1 yard short of Curtis Martin for the NFL Rushing title and Atlanta had the bad manners to hold on to the ball for the remaining 4:28 in a failed attempt to tie the game. After the title-clinching win here's what Shaun had to say :

"We were going to win anyway," Alexander said after Sunday's game. "We were on the **** goal line, and I got stabbed in the back."

Alexander said. "I feel worse because we had a quarterback sneak for a touchdown. That hurts, but I'll be all right."

All is well, thankfully, because Shaun is going to "be all right".

Man, you just can't make stuff this good up.

I live in Seattle, and I can believe he said it. Shaun is an outstanding running back, but he is definitely a "Me first" type of guy. It is common knowledge that he is selfish and this is just the latest of glimpses into his character. He is a free agent when the season is over, and any team would be lucky too get him, but you now know what you are getting.

Seattle runs the West coast offense, which roughly means it is going to be about 60% passing. For Shaun to win the NFC rushing title, and miss out on the NFL title by one yard is very impressive to say the least in the system. Maybe he should go back and look at some tapes of him running out of bounds with no one within two yards of him, or him getting dropped by an arm tackle from a 170lbs defensive back. Or even look in the last half of the Atlanta game, instead of running straight ahead for a no gain play, he stutter steps and gets dropped in the backfield twice for 2 and 3 yard losses. Those five yards alone would have won the NFL title for him.

Okay, let me get of my soap box. He is an outstanding back, and he will be missed. He is a good citizen and community member, but he wants to be closer to the East coast, he has said this before. Seattle will miss him, but we will move on.

There's no "I" in team. Seattle has had a rocky season. The coach is trying to win games and keep his job not get people individual records. Do you think Peyton is going to relish in his TD record while he's watching the Super Bowl like you and me?

If he wants individual glory he can play golf like us too.

There's no "I" in Leon! Great points about a player complaining that the "team" won but he didn't. Kudos to the coach for calling the play that he felt gave the team the best chance of scoring.

BTW When was the last time you saw a 170 pound defensive back in the NFL?

Hey, I'm finally big enough to play pro ball!

Of course, these guys can run--and I can't.

I didn't mean to make you look up NFL rosters. My comment was only a generalization about the size of DBs in the NFL these days. :nodsmiley The 190-200 pound range seems to be the norm. Good work finding those guys, but technically only one of them is 170 or less.

And valeogut....I know there's no 170 pound "linemen" that can't run!

Even the kickers are heavier than 170 for the most part. I only looked at a couple of rosters, but it is nice to know that I would be considered "skinny" if I hung around most NFL locker rooms.

There was a time when we thought you might be a lost cause, but I saw that "dark humor" side of you that I like so well and I never gave up! Besides......every Family has it's BLACK sheep!

That's "BLACK sheep," leaguegolf!

I won't put up with any more political correctness, especially involving sheep!

You're absolutely right! I originally said "black sheep" and when I previewed it I thought it might offend someone and I changed it. Now I'm mad at myself for thinking that. Families have black sheep (my youngest sister is ours) just as they have skeletons in the closet. I don't expect I offended anyone who has a skeleton, and "black sheep" shouldn't offend anyone who has a family member who is different from the rest.

Racial sheep? What was I thinking? Thanks for setting me straight valeogut!

he is a good back but highly over rated, for him to come off the field and rip into a veteran coach was a mistake.

Fortunately I had the chance to know him personally when he was in college @ Bama, and you couldn't ask for a better student athlete, or all around guy. He was the idol to many young fans in the state and I hate to see him tarnish his name like this. But, he was wrong.
