2005 World Series

Now that football is over lets talk baseball.

Who will win this year?

My vote is the Cubs! :nodsmiley

The Cubs?

My Cards took a blow with the loss of Edgar but the pitching staff is upgraded (not as good as the Cubs', I know, but nonetheless very solid) and might get a huge boost (big if though) with the return of Rick Ankiel. He looked solid in winter ball and depending on how he goes, he may either win a spot in the starting rotation or slide into the second lefty spot left open by Steve Kline in the bullpen. Mulder will give them a bonafide ace and if Morris can come back to even his 2003 form (I believe 2004 was an aberration cause by injuries) they will have an extremely competitive staff. Womack wasn't a great loss as Grudz will adequately replace him, but Eckstein can't match up to Edgar. The offense shouldn't lose a ton though as Walker-Pujols-Edmonds-Rolen is still a very solid middle of the order. I'm not saying we'll win the title, but I like our chances of getting back to a similar position as last year and maybe this time our offense won't go into the gutter.

I know the Stros will be solid again this year so there could be a nice battle amongst those three for the NL Central title.

Cubs fans said the same exact thing this past year and we laughed at you all the way to 112 wins (including playoffs, of course) and the NL Pennant.

No way are we gonna touch 105 regular season wins again but to say we're gonna finish 3rd or even 4th is foolish. Speaking of the Cubs, who did they add to that stellar bullpen this offseason? Because without making a change there, you can kiss your hopes for any title goodbye. :nodsmiley

Jackamo....Jackamo....Jackamo Why did you have to go and start a baseball thread and pick somebody
to beat the Cardinals? Now you've got stlcard_25 started and we'll have to read several hundred of his whining posts before the season even starts!

Maddux is old...Prior is injury-prone...Wood has never lived up to expectations...and Zambrano is the best of the bunch but a head case.

Nomar is solid but no superstar anymore, and tell Sammy to turn off the K machine, he's no longer a great player anyway.

I'll take Mulder, Carpenter, Marquis, Morris and Suppan along with Pujols, Edmonds, Rolen, and Walker and take my chances. It'll be a good race in the Central but I like the way my team is shaping up and with the Cubs' failure to get any more bullpen help they could be in trouble again.

You've got it league...so when I'm updating the scores after every inning of the Cards' spring training games, you'll know who's to blame for putting the thought into my head! :nodsmiley

Edmonds and Walker are they still playing?

Wow I remember them when I was a kid, and i'm 45

This will be a fun year with you after every Cub victory over the Cards!

Yep, still playing and quite productive...unlike "Corky."

If it's anything like the past 5 years, then I guess it will be fine by me. Help me...how many NL Central titles have the Cards won in that time frame? And how about the Cubs?

I agree, the NL Central will be baseball's best three-team race IMO, it should be an exciting season. I'd bet on a team from there being the NL's World Series representative.

I know it's time for your nap there OG'er, but you should at least try to get to a bed or a couch rather than falling onto the keyboard.

I will bet you a used box of range balls on each Cubs cards game!

Used range balls? Well now, there's a treasure! We can find something creative to bet on sometime before the season begins I'm sure.
