San Antonio Golf

Well a friend of mine and I are flying down to San Antonio for 2 days and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a couple of courses to play. Moderatly priced.. nothing too expensive if you know the green fees.

Thanks
Darrell

Darrell, here is a link for you that shows the courses in SA along with their prices. I have played several of the courses but it has been a number of years. Some of my favorites were: Pecan Valley, Gateway Hills (Lackland AFB), Cedar Creek, The Dominion, Mission DeL Lago, Hill Country and The Quarry. Randoph AFB has a pretty good course but it is listed in Universal City. If you want to play some of the upper scale courses I would look at The Hill Country (very fast greens). I would stay away from Brooks AFB course. They are closing and are not putting any more money into the course. Good luck and have a great tiime.

I lived in San Antonio a couple of times and before moving here to Salt Lake. Cedar Creek was by far my favorite course to play when I was there. I'm not sure if it is still open for the public to play and at a reasonable price, though. It was fairly cheap when I was there. This is a great golf course and you would never know you were in Texas playing it.

As a muni, my favorite was Riverside. I played that course all the time, especially before Cedar Creek was available. I also liked to play Olmos Basin and Brackenridge. We played Olmos most of the time for practice rounds on the high school golf team. It's a good layout, but is a very busy course. Brackenridge is a little easier it seems like but more fun.

Pecan Valley is a great course, but I think it is private. I was a member then for $50/month the summer I graduated high school and played there almost every day during the summer. I think the next year they went private.

I really miss these courses hehe.

I never played the high end courses when I was there. Most were very new at the time, too.

Anyone that is in the area should check out Cedar Creek.

Hey. We lived in San Antonio for a couple of years and just returned from there last week.

Here are a couple of suggestions. Pecan Valley is a great course and is in great shape. Green fees with cart are $30 and that included lunch.

We also played Brackenridge, which is now a muni course. It was one of the first courses the PGA ever played and has much history. Being a muni, it is well-worn, but fun. Green fees there were also about $30.

For high end fun, try either the Quarry or LaCanterra. Both are high-end, daily fee courses. I'm not sure of the green fees.

Have a great trip!

Pecan Valley for $30 with a cart?! Sweet. I think it was strictly off limits the past several years I lived there, but I could be wrong. Cedar Creek then Pecan Valley would make a great couple of days. Pecan Valley is where the Texas Open was held (originally, I think).

As for the high-end courses the last I knew they were over $100 on the weekend. I don't think The Quarry was quite that much, though. The Quarry is a course I would play if I ever went back. When you mention San Antonio golf this is a course often mentioned. It was very new when I was last there.
