The Masters needs to change if it is to maintain its status as a Major. Cluttering up a small field with players who can not compete devalues the tournament. I think there should be a Champions Tour event at Augusta , with a selected field of past champions and grerat players. Then ,the Major tournament could be opened up to all of the top 100 players ,improving the quality of the field.

I kind of side with Lefty here. Sometimes I think that the Masters seems to rely on it`s sense of tradition, to maintain it`s status as a major, and it`s not continuing to develop, in order to maintain it`s standing as a Major. To enlarge the field to maybe the top 75 world ranked players would be great
I`d rather they enlarge the field and do away with the 10-shot rule if there`s a constraint on the number of Sunday groupings. When it comes to status, as a viewer I think The Players Championship has grown in status over the years which has been helped by having a larger field of more players who could be in contention.
I prefer the Masters field to any of the other majors. Because it's so exclusive it pretty much guarantees that come Sunday you'll have a marquee leaderboard and a great winner. The same can't be said for the others. Ben Curtis, Todd Hamilton, Shaun Micheel...all nice guys but to be honest, if I had known before the final round (and I did for the 2003 PGA) that they were going to win their respective majors I'd have went and watched something more interesting...like grass growing. :nodsmiley
Only a Euro would call a 6-4-1 record "domination" but I suppose if I had the sorry Ryder Cup record you had prior to 1983 I'd feel like that was "dominating" too.
Where are all the Euro winners at the Masters prior to 1983? Other than Seve, I don't see any that would be eligible for any past champions play.

If we follow the logic of having a Senior Masters, we might end up with a Senior US Open, a Senior PGA, a Senior British Open, etc... Next thing you know you'll end up with a Senior Tour!

Back in the day.....all a Euro had to do was win a PGA Tour event to get an "invitation." Same as everyone else. :nodsmiley
There's no way to link the Masters to Ryder Cup history, "dominating" performances or otherwise. Euro's started winning at Augusta about the time Ballesteros, Langer, and Faldo hit their prime.
We'll never see a "Senior Masters" and I really don't want to see that anyway. I say let the old guys play their own pre-tournament round or limit the Par 3 contest to past champions. Either way, the old guys get to play and the fans get to see them. That's always been a part of Masters lore, and I hope it remains that way.
