Good job Furyk!!! I'm not watching on TV, but I just saw on PGATour.com that he tied for the lead with a birdie at 18, so we have a nice 3-way playoff. I hate Vijay and Sergio with a passion, and Furyk is one of my top 5 favorite golfers so I'm definitely hoping he can pull it out against the two big guns. :)

Thanks for the update Wishbone. I haven't really watched any of the coverage, so I didn't have a clue whether they had talked about it or not. Wazman said he had not seen anything on it from CBS, so I assumed that they weren't going to comment on it. Thanks again for the update.

Ok I found the story. I guess he did try and move a fence and with the help of the gallery ended up breaking it, BUT since it was deemed an immovable structure earlier in the week he received a penalty...

Wow, he should have just asked the rules officials and he would have had a FREE drop according to that article. Dumb, dumb, dumb...kind of like many of his decisions and shots during the tournament.

Boy, was that some entertainment or what?! Great tournament...and yet another impressive performance from the great Vijay Singh.

Sergio coughing up a six-stroke lead has got to hurt. And Jim Furyk played his guts out. Great stuff!

And what about The Mick?! Nine under through 16! He ended up playing holes 1-16 in -13, while playing holes 17 and 18 in +8. Watch out for Phil at the Nelson.

What else is there to say about Vijay. He took on probably the best non-major, non-WGC field to date this year and came out victorious. Say what you will about Sergio choking or the lackluster performance by the other two in the playoff but Vijay comes to play nearly every week and is winning his share no matter who is in the field.

It's his first non-cheesy win since September 2004 Deutsche Bank over Tiger. Between that win and this one, 5 cheesy wins. that's 5/27 for his career. That's Vijay's dirty little secret.

So far I count his only good career wins:

Memorial
TOUR Championship
Byron Nelson
3 majors
2004 Buick Classic
2005 Wachovia

When you think about it, 6 strokes isn't all that much. You could have a 3 stroke swing in 1 hole. If Sergio wouldn't have put it in the drink, he would have won. I agree with stlcard, Vijay is very consistant and comes to play everyweek.

It may not sound like all that much, but the last time someone on Tour lost a lead this large in the final round was.....Greg Norman at the Masters in 1996 . So it is a pretty rare thing and I'm sure Sergio feels that this was one he gave away today.

As for Vijay's "cheesy" wins, he still has 27 official PGA Tour wins, and I can't find any fault with a single one of them. He's won 27 events against some of the best players (competition) in the world, and I'll leave it at that. :nodsmiley

I would've liked to see Sergio hold on...
but once he lost the lead, i began rooting for furyk.
I'd rather cheer for the underdog than for a top-5'er. (with the exception of Sorenstam - Wie cheer for Annika anyday. Or against Wie anyday.)
Besides, Furyk has a caddie with an awesome Nickname (Mike "Fluff" Cowan) How could you not cheer for a name like that???

Same here GirlGolfa. Vijay is consistent, Vijay comes to work every week, Vijay is one ******* golfer, but you know what? I still can't root for the guy...His lack of charisma, his "blue collar" attitude and his general unfriendliness makes him pretty unpopular on my list.

Well I like VJ and I find him to be refreshingly candid in his interviews although his delivery is rather dry. Get used to him, he's not going anywhere for a few years... not with his work ethic and the remarkable flexibility he has for someone his age. I felt badly for Sergio with all of the talk of a "meltdown". He did shoot par for crying out loud and actually made a nice little comeback when it looked as if VJ had overtaken him for good. As for VJs 22 "cheesy" wins... well that isn't even worth rebutting.
