As a Canadian, I support and follow Mike Weir. He seems to have really regressed of late. He is falling in the world standings and just does not seem to be competitive of late. I know he is focusing on the majors but he is not "Tiger" so maybe he should play more and get into some sort of rhythm.
Maybe his death knell was winning the Masters. Others have struggled after a major victory too because of all that is thrown at them as far as endorsements and business arrangements.
Perhaps he is sharing an apartment with David Duval?
Come on now, everyone know's that David is happily married and has a family to share his life with. :nodsmiley Duval has settled down after serving his "community service" sentence for bustin' into Tiger's garage and damaging Tiger's SUV.
If anything, it's Weir's and Duval's golf games that have taken a prolonged vacation and are living the carefree bachelor life!
I would like to see him play more than like 2 tourneys a year lol other than the majors.... 2003 was a great season for mike and us canadians alike...... ever since its been downhill..... but when he does play... most of the time hes up close to the top of the leaderboeard

David Duval recently married a woman that has children from a previous marriage.
Okay. So Mike is renting a room from the Duval's, and Lefty has paid the stepchildren to replace David's golf balls with imperfect ones that turn top tier tour players into mere +1s .

After painfully watching the demise of David Duval, and reading all the opinions on what's wrong with him, your explanation sounds as reasonable as any of the others!
Well, Igolfalot, I think Mike is just going through a major transitional period. He'll be OK...and soon.
You have to remember, Mike's '03 exceeded everyone's expectations, perhaps even his own. Generally speaking, Mike is not the kind of guy who can be expected to regularly contend for major championships and money titles. He's a very fine player...but he's not great.
Mike has spent a great deal of time working on his swing. And he has greatly improved his ball-striking. Look at his ball-striking stats from '03 and '04. They were surprisingly weak for the big years he turned in. It was his great short game and excellent putting which saw him to those big years.
Now, this year, his ball-striking numbers are the best of his career. He's got to be feeling very good about the way he is hitting the ball. But his putter is killing him. And that's a huge turn-around for a guy like Mike. I bet Mike has put in so much time working on his ball-striking that he may have neglected, just a tad, his short game.
I predict that Mike will soon merge his newfound ball-striking skills with a revitalized putter and, when he does, he'll have another hot run. He'll be fine.

He better make a run.....I hear Duval needs the money and is raising the rent!

I agree with you, droogy, once he gets the flat stick worked out he'll find his way back to the top...he's proven he has the fortitude to be a champ. Wiersy has always been a bit streaky and seems to have certain venues and times of the year in which he excels.
Another guy who hits every club but one really well is Charles Howell III...he doesn't have the track record that Weir has and their games don't resemble one another except for their consitency through the green and putting woes...we've seen Wier putt well and know he can do it again but Chucky Threesticks has yet to break on through to the other side. If he ever does, we'll be seeing his name a lot at the top.
Weir's a streaky player, as are a lot of the golfers outside of the top 5. David Toms had a hot start, but has faded recently and missed several cuts. Padraig Harrington's hasn't played well of late. Kenny Perry missed a few cuts in a row before this week. So it could come together any week for Mike. He played pretty well on the West Coast and at the Masters, and right now is in a little funk, but he'll bounce back. He's been an up and down player all his career.
Weir is there, his putting is not. For a guy who is that small on the PGA tour he must putt well in order to make the cut. By well I mean in the top 20. He does not afford the privilege to knock it on all the 5 pars or hit nine iron into 480 yard 4 pars.
Every player has a streaky putter. This is the nature of putting & why it is so unique. Vijay Singh can win without putting well, Mike Weir has no hope what so ever to win if he putts poorly.
So far Weir has played 12 events, with 2 top 10 finishes, including a 2nd place. He's having a poor year, having only managed $1,120,000 in winnnings so far.
He's normally an excellent putter, so once he finds the range there he should be OK. He's off this week and then playing the Memorial, Booz Allen, and the US Open in consecutive weeks.
