I dont recall all that many middle order US tour pros burning it up in the Open cos lets face it Howell (at the moment at least) is a middle order guy over here.
Hamilton, Curtis, Daly...just to name three in the past 10 years or so. But I guess you're right, since besides Daly, the other two don't even qualify as middle order guys over here.
I wouldnt call Daly middle order, he's much better than that (still think its a disgrace he never got on the Ryder Cup Team).
Curtis is below the middle order as he has shown several times since picking up Bjorn's fumbled ball at Sandwich, how many cuts in the last 2 years? Mind you he did ok last week but I thought it was a bit off that none of your guys pitched up at Wentworth last week. Wentworth is about as american as our courses get, I would have fancied the likes of Toms especially on recent form.
Hamilton is a different matter. I think with a little better coverage and some he could really get himself into the top tier.
Surely you admit that Furyk would have pretty much had any of our guys that day. It was just Howell's bad luck it was him. But then I suppose it dont matter cos the rest of the American team did so well.......

American's have to earn their way on the team or gain the Captain's trust and respect to become a Captain's pick. John Daly did neither and was justly omitted from the US team. I like Daly but he's not someone I felt should represent our country. Especially when he failed to earn his way onto the team. That being said, he certainly couln't have done any worse than the guys we had. D.
You sound like Howell....."It's just bad luck he lost." Bad luck had nothing to do with him being benched for the majority of the matches. Maybe he'll fair better next time (if he's good enough to make your team) when the matches are closer and he doesn't need a babysitter to make him feel comfortable.
Yes, the American team (now there's an oxymoron ) lost to a superior team. There's no question about that. I suppose when the PGA Tour changes all the events to "TEAM PLAY" the Americans will be in deep do-do. Until then, you enjoy your Ryder Cup victory and I'll keep enjoying Americans winning majors. BTW If you're keeping score as closely as you do with the Ryder Cup.....13 of the last 20 Majors have been won by Americans.

He's done virtually nothing with his career. Two majors, but besides that, he's been below middle of the order. I like the guy, but to say he's been in the upper echelon of American PGA Tour pros in the past 10-15 years with the likes of Tiger, Phil, Davis, or Duval is stretching a bit. He's in the same category as guys like Justin Leonard, Tom Lehman and Jim Furyk. Nice players, but barely better than middle of the pack players.

Whoaa Stl. A little respect for Justin and Jim. These two have had a few years in the top ten of the TOUR's money list and have been consistently good players.
John Daly has never once cracked the top ten on the TOUR's money list.
You're right droogy. I was trying to think of someone to compare them to and those were a few of the guys I could think of with one major in the past ten years. Sorry for insulting that honorable trio by lumping someone like Daly in with them.
If that's the case......why haven't more Euro's won the British Open? Does that mean when YOU move the majors around the world that players from the host countries will dominate?
All the best players are all living and playing here, so why would holding the majors in the US be a disadvantage to non-Americans?
Most only visit the States for the week before. Ever heard of home field advantage?
Home field advantage ain't helpin' much in the British Open now is it!
I disagree that "most" only visit the states for the week before. Most of the top players are already playing PGA Tour events prior to any major held on US soil. :nodsmiley
By strong , I mean strong from the European Tour, with many of the top European players . In other words, they have caught between supporting an imortant event on their tour, or flying across to aclimitise in USA.
"Aclimitise" must be a UK word? There's plenty to do here in the US but I'm not sure I've ever "aclimitised." It's not something illegal or immoral is it? Cuz I'd hate to miss out on something fun!
It's always good to see strong fields in Euro events. That way they can't cry about not getting the world ranking points they think they deserve.
