For once , the big fish are this side of the pond, and not having it all their own way.
Ernie shot 73 (must have had too much breakfast ) ,Goosen recovered to shoot 2 under, Davis and Owen didn't break par.Donald took a 7 on the 18th to finish one under.League golf's hero, David Howell is nicely placed.
Amazing round of the day came from the only American, Ben Curtis. After a diabolical start to the year, he shot a 68 .He must be a tea drinker.
Should make for an interesting tournament.

Curtis has made the cut.
Owen ,Casey and Davis look as if they will miss the cut comfortably, Westwood ,Monty and Donald on the cut line.
Goosen has made progress, Ernie is making birdies.
McGinley shot 64 for the lead.Should be a good weekend, temperature may hit 30 today, but cool for the weekend.
Looks like a great weekend ahead at stately, elegant and beautiful Wentworth. I've never seen the West Course look nicer.
Davis and Casey +12?! What the heck has happened to Paul? He's having a horrible year.
And Paul McGinley continues his fine play....but I'm pulling for Nick O'Hern, the most under-rated player in all of golf. He'll play at Muirfield Village next week.
.....Casey +12?! What the heck has happened to Paul? He's having a horrible year.
It seems to me that Casey got on the wrong side of a lot of people early in the year and hasn't been able recover from the mess his mouth got him into.

Yeah, I wonder how the likes of Tiger & VeeJay would fare, with the likes of Els, showing a mediocre card. Or maybe thats just what Tiger & co are afraid of.
It was also nice to see the BBC covering Wentworth & the Irish open, ironically after I've just spent out on upping my subscription to include sky sports on the ol' satelite TV

This is the first year in many that Vijay hasnt played in this event, then again its also the first time in ages that he's taken 2 weeks off.

He did win in China though, its been feast and famine, if he can find some consistency he will be a top, top player.
England's ying to Luke Donald's yang, if you will.

His eagle, eagle finish today has him in contention and that's cool. Just don't say "America" loud enough for him to hear you. We wouldn't want him running to mommy's skirt tails.
I hope you have a great time and I'll be watching the finish on the Golf Channel!
17 is long by amateur status at 571 yards , but most pros would fancy hitting it in two,18 is only 531 yards. Yesterday the wind was blowing hard helping, and the fairway is giving a lot of run.
Luke Donald has played the two holes in 4 over par over three days, David Howell had played them in 7 under.
Not so much wind today, but there will be lots of run on the fairway.
Awwwwww whassamatter LeagueGolf, didnt Howell roll over and play dead at the Ryder Cup like you were counting on??? Very inconsiderate of him that.
I dont recall him doing so bad over the water (when he bothers to go). He needs more self confidence, thats all. If he had Poulter or Casey's outrageous ego's he would be doing really really well. He has no weaknesses in his game, no strengths either I suppose but I think everyone of us would rather be above average at every part of the game rather than just great at one or two and honking at the rest.
An American that doesnt travel is always said to be supporting his tour. Europeans that dont play much in the states always seem to be 'scared of the competition'. Remember, we don't all learn this game on a tree lined turf nursery, the American game has always been a problem for some of our top guys. I dont recall all that many middle order US tour pros burning it up in the Open cos lets face it Howell (at the moment at least) is a middle order guy over here. But top 16 at Augusta and hopefully some strong performances at the rest of the years Majors should see him cement his place in the worlds top 30.
Long overdue win for Cabrerra.Always liked him as a player, long languid swing and featherlite touch. When he's hot, he's a pleasure to watch, when he's cold, he's way off.
Howell could n't take the pressure of League golf watching on the Golf channel and choked.
Yes, congrats to Angel on the biggest victory of his career. And yet another steady performance from Nick O'Hern. He gets a tad timid at crunch time.
And Ernie? Poor Ernie. Three victories in "B" tournaments and three lackluster performances in the three biggest events he has played this year. He defends at Muirfield Village this week.

You mean he wasn't dead when journeyman Jim Furyk pasted him 6 & 4 in his singles match? Oh wait, that was him on the bench for 3 of the 4 matches held the first two days. Howell folded like a house of cards in a hurricane when he didn't have a teammate to hold his hand.
The way you Euros keep bragging about the Ryder Cup you'd think it meant something in the world of professional golf. Congrats to your and your team on your recent Ryder Cup success, but let's have the Euros try to win something more important......like maybe the US Open. How long has it been now? 35 years.....
The problem with a Euro winning the US Open is that he doesn't have a teammate to fall back on when the going gets tough.
