How will an Els win affect his ranking?
Would he gain on Tiger or would that take an Open victory?

I don't think he can catch Tiger even if he wins both this week and next. But after this week, unless Vijay puts together a really solid weekend, Ernie will have Vijay to try to catch for #2 instead of Tiger. It's like musical #1.

Mulligan,
If Ernie were to win this week his ranking avg. would go from 10.21 to roughly 11.30. A nice jump, to be sure, but he'd still be firmly entrenched in the #3 spot.

Ernie's still pretty far back. Tiger and Vijay have kind of separated themselves from Ernie, Phil and Retief. Best way to get close to Tiger and Vijay is to win next week. I don't think he'll win nearly as many points this week as he'd win next week with a victory.
