Women's U.S. Open

Just heard on the radio that after the completion of Round 1 this morning Michelle Wie is tied for the lead at -2.

Wouldn't it be special if Annika and Michelle mirror Arnie and Jack at Oakmont in '62? :nodsmiley

I noticed that every media outlet loudly proclaimed the fact that Wie was clubhouse leader, but didn't mention the others she was tied with.
Is it just me, or does it seem they are just biting at the bits to overhype this girl?
This will turn even more people against her I think.

Well, Michelle shot 2 over in her second round to fall back to even. She still seems to be in contention but Annika is on the course right now with many holes left to play.

Well, there isn't anything Michelle can do about this. I guess what she could do is play bad and not be in contention but the media would probably cover that as well. It's too bad people might turn against her for something she doesn't really have control over.

She was the leader of those that had finished, that's why she was the "clubhouse" leader. The rest of those she was/is tied with were starting in the afternoon, including the players who were/are ahead of her (all afternoon starters, BTW). I am sure there will be numerous changes to the leaderboard over the next few hours.

Looks like Michelle will be in the final group tomorrow. I hope she can put together a good round and keep herself in it for Sunday. Also, here's hoping Paula Creamer makes a run as well...only 3 back. Unless Annika really gets it going on the weekend, it looks like she may fall short at this one....although it's probably wise to never count Annika out.

Those of you who never watch the LPGA, may want to check out tomorrow's action. Michelle Wie and top amatuer Morgan Pressel are currently tied for the lead with with Karen Stupples. Paula Creamer is 1 back and Annika still lurking. This one should be some fun.

question: Does the winner of the Women's US Open Championship get an exemption to the US OPEN? The US AM, Senior AM, Publ. lynx AM does, but I don't ever remember the Women's Champ. If not, why not?

Amen. I already hate her though.

I believe Karen Stupples and Morgan Pressel will be in the final pairing tomorrow since they both finished +1 but came into the clubhouse earlier? It'll be an interesting final round. Paula Creamer is only one back, too.

I wonder what most people will choose to watch? The Barclays PGA Tour event or the U.S. Women's Open?

Lord help those of you that didn't think Michelle was capable. I will be reminding you of this tomorrow evening and on Monday, should she win.

The coverage reminded me a lot of how the announcers talk about Tiger... I can't even count how many times I've heard the announcers say that Tiger is the only one in the world who could hit that shot. Johnny tried to say it about a shot that Wie hit today Tiger is great and so is Michelle but I don't think they hit shots that no one else is capable of hitting.

victory, I'll be watching the Open mostly, but I'll be flipping back and forth

at this rate, by tomorrow she will be 6'5 with a swing speed of 130
johnny miller is ridiculus. She went from 6' to 6'3 in 3 holes.
It is obvious she is talented but if she was PGA tour material I would imagine she would be running away with this thing.
The LPGA is stocked with good, but not great talent other than Annika.

OT but did anyone see the press conference with Wie after she qualified for the men's publinx? I have to remember that she is 15 but she came across as an arrogant brat. I would like to think my daughters will not be so impolite and condescending when they are 15 (though, I am sure I will be in for a rude awakening at that age)

I am more or less wishing her well, and her skills are undeniable but the announcers hyperbole borders on sickening.

I hope Michelle wins, she has the best swing out of all of them and pulls off the best shots.
I thought Brittany Lang was going to do good after her 1st round, pity she had that 77.
Don't think Annika will do it this time........
