The Open Championship

Watched ABC's Open Championship Preview, which really got the juices flowing. The Old Course looks to be in fantastic condition and the changes can only make the course that much more demanding, given that several bunkers and OB lines are now back in play.

With everything that is at stake this week; and given the historical tie-ins between Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods, I have a feeling Mr. Harvey can start the engraving tonight.

Jeez, Droogy, much as I want Tiger to win this thing, let's not put the cart before the horse! I hate when fans overhype his chances - afraid of a jinx!

Yeah, let's not put the gris-gris on Tiger before the tournament.

Of course you're right, Donnakay. But I have a strong feeling about this one. Tiger really has been playing quite well of late and, more than anyone else, he seems to rise to the big, big occasions.

Did you know that Tiger won in each of Jack's last appearances in the U.S. Open, PGA Championship and The Masters? And now this is Jack's last Open Championship start and Jack was the last (and perhaps only...I haven't verified) player to win consecutive Old Course titles.

I read today that Tiger avoided all of the bunkers there today on his practise round, like he did in 2000 and he nearly drove two of the par fours The Old Lady is looking a little naked at the moment ...I hope the wind blows :nodsmiley or else she may be taken advantage of !

Droogy, I did know that Tiger has won at each of Jack farewells! Kinda eerie, isn't it? Almost like the passing of the torch, if I may be sentimental!

Oh boy...thanks for the kiss of death to us Tiger fans.

But you do make a good point on the historical tie-ins between Jack and Tiger. Something I will go into in more depth hopefully after this week.

Droogie, with all joking aside you do have to like his chances. IMO, I think two factors can work against him. Bad weather(mainly wind) and a balky putter( typically go hand in hand anyway with Tiger)

However, if the weather is like it was in 2000 and he's top 15 in putting for the week....I really like his chances.

As mentioned, he was not bunkered even once in 2000. A lot of that is skill, a lot of that is luck also. An odd bounce off one of those knobs will put you right in one of fairway bunkers...which as you know is like a one shot penalty.

I will be shocked if goes bunkerless for the week again. Lady luck has way of evening things up unfortunately.

Should be interesting to say the least. I hope you right Doogie, but as much as I want to see Tiger win it, you'll never find me predicting Tiger to win any major. I guess I feel like Donna in that it's a jinx. It has been proven with me time and time again in any endeavor for that matter.

You see I was also valedictorian in the Lou Holtz School of Pour-Mouthing :nodsmiley

Watch out for Ernie though. He's one of those that likes to lay low in weeds(heather in this case) then come out and preform like we know he can.

Congrats to Brad Faxon. Took a lot of guts to fly all that way and play in the Qualifying.

BTW, weather's looking pretty good for Tiger. I said the only thing that can slow Tiger down this week is windy weather b/c it makes you play the course a lot different...BUT, they're expecting showers every day, temps in the low 60s, and hardly any wind. Of course, forecasts change hour to hour over there, but for now, if the weather forecast hold true to form, I see low scores this week, especially for Tiger.
