With Tiger finish 1-2-1 in the first three majors along with a couple PGA tour victories, would you think he has the Player of the Year trophy locked up? I don't believe any of other big four (Phil, VJ, Ernie, or Goose) are anywhere close in performance. Barring any major slide or swing changes , I think it is a foregone conclusion. Love him or hate him, this guy is a league of his own.
Yah i think if all he does the rest of the year is finish top-5 at the PGA He has it locked up,BTW I betting on T-Dub taking the PGA home. Getting 3 out of four ain't bad, That #@%&*@! Michel Cambell or however you spell his name.
It's a three man race if you ask me, Phil and VJ both have three wins along with Tiger, but as you note two of his three are majors. If either Phil or VJ win the PGA and possibly win at Firestone or THE TOUR Championship, I think POY could be quite interesting ...winning at the WGC-NEC is a very prestigious title.
I don't think Phil or VJ would have a shot unless they win the PGA....if they'd win at Firestone and win the TOUR Championship I don't think it would be enought to match up, gotta have a major to go against two of Tigers...
Tiger has 4 wins now. He won the Buick Invitational and Doral, along with the two majors.
It would take an incredible finish for someone to overtake him for POY... Vijay would have to win like 3-4 more events, including the PGA. And that is assuming that Tiger doesn't add to his win total.
Based on Phil's play at the British Open and that he's not finished in the Top 10 since the Wachovia in early May, I'd have to say he's not going to do it...
VJ on the other hands held his own finishing no worse than 7th in 3 of his last 4 starts, T13 at the Western isn't too shabby.
VJ will be Tiger's only challenger for POY ...Phil has to pull something miraculous off.
I'd put Tiger #1 and Vijay #2. Phil started off the year good, but he hasn't played too well in the majors this year and has struggled with his game since round 3 at Augusta. Retief's had solid finishes this year in tournaments and majors, but no wins. And Ernie has hardly been in contention at all this year on the Tour. He's been awful in majors.

I agree with that. Add Phil in the equation with Vijay.
Majors are heavily weighted in the criteria for POY..as they should be.
Case in point, lets revisit 1998. Duval has 4 official tour wins, the Vardon and the Money title. O'Meara has only 2 official tour wins but as we know they were Majors(the Masters and British Open).
O'Meara won POY.
The way I see it the Majors are worth at least 2.5 points, with regular events worth one. The TPC, WGC's events, Mercedes and season ending Tour Championship may be worth 1.5.
Or to make it simpler...
Majors-3 points
TPC, WGC's, Mercedes, Tour Championship-2 points
Regular events-1 point
Hope I don't put the KOD on Tiger...but it lookes extremely likely he'll win POY for the 7th time out of 9 full seasons. ....
He's aslo serged ahead in the race for the prestigious Vardon...although that race is much tighter at this stage...
I think at the moment with the improvements he has done to his swing he is on a completely new level there is no one in the game at the moment who can even touch him and i my eye the player of the year. The other four players really have not done anything in the majors this year but tiger always delivers in the big events.......
