I could barely watch Ben Crane play. I would find myself falling asleep on the couch when he was on the tee, but waking up in time for him to hit his approach. I'm sure he's a nice guy and all, but for the sake of TV coverage (when I'm watching), I hope he's not in contention much. And If I was playing with him on the local muni, I would leave him behind just like Sabbatini did.

He'd drive me nuts too, but Sabbatini was off-base. The clock and the rules officials have the final word regarding slow play. I did find Verplank's interview amusing, though. He almost bit his tongue off trying to find a nice way of saying that Crane needs to figure out a way to speed it up ... and soon.

Who worked Sergio through his pre-shot routine? It was quite distracting for some time, now he's more like the rest of them.

I think Sabbatini was off base when he left the green while Crane was still putting, but not for putting out or walking to his ball behind the green while Crane was in the fairway. If they get fined for Crane playing slow (or Verplank gets fined yesterday), Sabbatini would still owe the fine and have it on his record. Think about if you got a speeding ticket for being in the passenger seat with a driver who was speeding. You wouldn't be too happy.
If I was playing with Crane and we were put on the clock, I would tell him first thing that he would have to pay my fine if he doesn't get his hind-quarters moving, and I probably wouldn't be too nice about it.

I agree, and i see this going the way of a long, long slow play thread again. But i watched yesterday with the Mrs. for a bit and that was when she asked me who i would rather play with her or Crane........of course i said her, as long as she hit as many "riders" as him.

Thats true, it could go the way of another long slow play thread. I'm almost ashamed I started it, because I always read all the slow play threads and laugh at the people who come out say, "I'm against slow play". No kidding, its like saying you're against high gas prices and long lines at the supermarket, no one here is going to say they are in favor. Nobody pops up on those threads and says they enjoy the extra time to be in nature while waiting on the delightful people ahead to dig up most of the sod trying to advance their ball.
I guess it does come to slow play not only being bad on the course, but on TV as well.

Yes, I have to agree that watching Ben Crane for 18 holes would probably cause some people to tear their hair out. If I was playing with the guy I wouldn't look at him. I'd focus my attention elsewhere until he hit the **** ball.
Yesterday Ben Crane admitted he needs to work on his pre-shot routine. Ironically he finished his round about 15 minutes earlier than most televised rounds.

I only caught the last couple of holes of Crane's win yesterday and yes, his pre-shot routine is way overdrawn, but he did finish well inside the PGA time requirements.... .and he won. So what's the problem?

I hate waiting, too...but you may be surprised. We have a couple of members here who've weighed in on the other side of the subject. They like to take their time. The only time faster players bother me is when I'm out with my usual 3 or 4-some and they insist on sending singles and pairs out behind us. It gets to be a pain letting a group through every few holes.

I watched Ben Crane play one shot yesterday....and had to change channel . Maybe if they put the commercial breaks inbetween when he addresses the ball to when he hits the ball, I could have watched the tournament
Mark James was a waggler too about 20 years ago.... all too slow for me...

They could just have Sergio relearn his old preshot routine and pair him with Crane every single round.....they'd need to tee off two hours ahead of anyone else to keep ahead of them though.

My answer to that is speed it up, I played 18 this morning and I've been home for an hour and a half. P.S. played as a fivesome also.

I was up last nite watching TGC and got to see his "routine" for the first time.
He IS slow! Does he do this before EVERY shot? I'd hate to change something that is putting "food on the table" for his family and obviously it works for him. I saw his putting stats, and obviously he's focused.
Maybe if he ran to his ball, he could save a little time?
First time I'd say they should actually allow a cart on the PGA.
