Here are a couple of other tidbits:

TOURNAMENT RECORDS

48 points - Phil Mickelson (in 1997)

Best 18-hole score:

2004 THE INTERNATIONAL LEADERBOARD

1 Rod Pampling 15-7-7-2--31 $900,000

2 Alex Cejka 8-9-11-1--29 $540,000

3 Tom Pernice, Jr. 5-10-11-1--27 $340,000

4 Duffy Waldorf 8-3-7-8--26 $240,000

5 Jay Haas 10-3-8-4--25 $200,000

6 Tim Petrovic 9-5-8-2--24 $167,500

6 Stewart Cink 6-5-11-2--24 $167,500

6 Chris DiMarco 14-17--24 $167,500

9 Mathias Gronberg 2-6-9-6--23 $135,000

9 Bernhard Langer 7-7-5-4--23 $135,000

9 Bob Tway 9-9-8--23 $135,000

The weather forecast calls for ocassional thundershowers and warm temperatures throughout the tournament. The Modified Stableford Scoring format really suits aggressive scoring machines like Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia, among others. Phil has a rather impressive record in this event, with two victories and two runner-ups among his six top-tens in 12 appearances.

But I'm not sure if Phil has addressed the foot-work problems which have been leading to his losing many shots left. He hasn't posted a decent result since Wachovia.

Sergio, on the other hand, has been playing very well of late and is brimming with confidence. I have a feeling this week is his week.

As usual, Sunday's final round should be exciting and entertaining. I'm pulling, big time, for Phil. He needs a good performance, both this week and next, at Baltusrol.

I was waiting for this thread to show up.....waiting til the last minute now eh droogy?

This is a nice refreshing change of pace....Castle Pines is a lovely course and the guys seem to enjoy going there. I certainly expect some good play and a fast finish this week. Phil's the guy to beat IMO....I think he'll pick up that 4th win of the season to keep pace with Tiger and Vijay in the win column. Also, I expect Sean O'Hair to continue his stellar play and maybe Joe Ogilvie to resurface on the first page of the leaderboard again. Also, my gut feeling is that Charles Howell III will make an appearance near the top this week....maybe some of those milkshakes will weigh him down a bit and keep him anchored to the ground during the quick-strike storms that seem to plague the event every year.

I expect David Duval and Jesper Parnevick to finish tops in this event. I miss my two favorites playing well. I think Parnevick and Duval are both going to lose their cards this year.

Duval can't lose his card he is still exempt for another year from his win at the open championship in 2001

I'm think Mickelson win it again this year, the format just seems perfect for his style of play... or at least the aggressive Phil that won 20-some tournaments and no majors.

Hilarious, stlcard! I was thinking about you as I posted it.

And I agree, this tournament is a great change-of-pace. I love the course and the scoring format.

I expect good performances from both Phil and Retief this week. Two of the big hitters who, when they play agressive, can make a lot of birdies and eagles. Two of the better par-5 players as well on Tour.

Hey...where else could you expect to see David Duval at -1 thru 7? Oh, you mean that's a bad thing?

Looks like I picked the wrong "Joe Ogilvie"....Geoff Ogilvy is leading with 11 points.

Tiger has only played the event twice...in 1998 he finished in 4th place, and in 1999 he finished in a tie for 37th. Its current position on the schedule (the week before the PGA Championship, and Tiger never plays the week before a major ) will likely preclude him from ever playing the event again.

That's note quite right. For several years, the Buick Open was held right before the PGA and Tiger has played it the year's where it preceded that event. Probably the main reason Woods hasn't played the International is that is not one of the courses he really likes to play.

For example, other than the Player's, he doesn't play TPC courses. While Castle Pines is not a TPC course, it's fairly new compared to courses like Warwick, Torrey Pines, Pebble Beach, etc. He seems to like to pick his events when they are on more traditional type courses. The course where they play the Wacovia (sp?) tournament is another course that he now plays - that course definetly fits the mold of a traditional layout. When that event was held elsewhere, Tiger was no where to be found.

Wow...Mayfair is really tearing things up (even though I absolutely hate the guy....I saw him in person act like an **** to a kid at the Chrysler last year in Palm Harbor). Goose is moved into contention. Would like to see him up there this weekend. Phil needs a good day today. Just not playing good golf the last few months. Also good to see Charles Howell III playing well again.

I knew he played the Buick back when it was played the week before the PGA, but he hasn't played a tourney the week before a major since the Buick moved to two weeks before the PGA, so I'd expect that to continue. You're probably right about not liking the course though...I've also heard that he doesn't like having to adjust his yardages one week and then readjust the following week...not that he can't, but subconciously it is fairly hard to do so quickly.
