Phil has packed on tonnage in the last few years but it doesn't appear to be hurting him any at this point. But I have to think that if he was in better shape that it could only improve his game. Oh well, look at his wife, his career earnings, and the overall life he's having and it's hard to criticize the guy for thrown down some double cheeseburgers with extra bacon. More power to him, I guess.

I saw Phil up close (20 feet) at the Masters this year , and I think he is just one of those guys who gets "camera pounds" on TV somehow , because in person he looks like a fairly trim guy . No , he is not tight , cut up , whatever you wanna call it , but he is by no means fat .

It always starts with the wife.

Perfect! I'm glad someone else has noticed.

There are some guys who should never wear golf shirts made of clinging, shiny fabrics. Phil and Colin are two of them!

Monty has shed some pounds lately (a divorce and a new girlfriend will do that for you.....spoken from experience ) and Phil may be "out front" in this dubious race.

it's possible Phil's wife wants him that way. and league, would you care to shed a tad more light on the subject?

besides, why would Phil want to change anything, after winning 2 majors in 2yrs. now, if he can get #3, he might be really on his way. maybe the US OPEN next yr.

However, even with Phil possibly winning the PGA and the Tour Championship, I wouldn't be surprised if Tiger took the NEC (a tourney he loves) or the AMEX (another one that he likes a lot). One of those would seal the deal I think.
I doubt the Tour players forget that Tiger won the Masters, won the British Open, was 2nd in the US Open, and 4th in the PGA this year....and was 4 strokes from a single season Slam....
It would take someone having a season like Vijay did AFTER the majors last year (what was it, 6 wins in 7 starts?)...IMO that is what it would take for someone other than Tiger to win POY.

why does it really matter if Phil has put on a couple of lbs. or not? His game is speaking for itself, he has a beautiful wife and family and it looks like he is having fun. Good for him. How many people on this board have "packed" a few extra pounds on the last couple of years? and has it affected YOUR game???

Leave Phil alone. It seems no matter what he does people love to rip him apart.

The person who has really blimped out is Mark Calcavecio(sorry about the spelling of the last name)

Calc is a mere shadow of Hal Sutton these days.

Anyone remember the blond, flat-bellied Adonis that Hal Sutton used to be?

Phil has put on a couple of pounds...but his strategy has helped him become a better player over all. Hitting high cuts off the tee, and not gambling as often, is much more important than whether he loses 20 lbs or so. I do agree that being in better shape helps fight fatigue, but take a look at what happened to David Duval and Bob Estes who became fitness gurus, but not better players.
